Orienteering race (WSX Dorset Delight) 1:21:57 [4] 11.7 km (7:00 / km) +180m 6:30 / km
shoes: Inov8 Terroc 330
Holmesley and Dur Hill.

Legs were aching after yesterday, and knee was threatening to pi$$ on my parade, but after all I was feeling ok once I'd got going. Dodgy mapping of the prolific gorse and overall general mapping updates required.

Only big mistake was on #17 in the old gravel pit. I just couldn't find the control and wasted about 5 mins looking for it (according to John's splits). Time losses on 23 and 26 as well. Totalled about 8 mins loss.

My first regional event win! (Ok so there were only 5 of us on course 1)

Event: City of London Orienteering Race

Orienteering race (City of London Race) 52:36 [4] 7.7 km (6:50 / km)
shoes: Inov8 Terroc 330
What an awesome event. Really enjoyed it despite getting properly thrown off-scent by the split-level Barbican centre.

Was worried about my knee, but it only really affected me climbing steps and making sharp left-turns. Quads were still aching after my two little runs during the week.

Ran well and almost perfectly up to #18. Then 19 was the first change in height and I got caught-out. 20, again, was thrown by the height difference, but I should have trusted my initial convictions and gone right to the top of the staircase instead of changing my mind half way up and going back down to street level again. Then I gallantly led Simon Branford towards 21, but for some reason I ran to 24 and punched it before I realised it wasn't 21. Another big time loss at 25 as me and Simon stopped to dicuss how the hell to get to it.

There seemed little point in trying to outrun Simon because as soon as I had shaken him off he was back on me after I'd stopped to try and make sense of the thick black lines and light grey shading.

Still, a great race, and I'm keen to do more of these city race things.

Road Bike (Bike to work) 25:00 [2] 9.7 km (2:35 / km)
Knee is not very happy this morning after its little trot last night.
Road Bike (Bike home from work) 40:00 [3] 14.2 km (2:49 / km)
Run 36:30 [2] 7.8 km (4:41 / km)

Shockingly my quads are aching after yesterday's trot round the Downs, but I went out for more anyway. I feel like I'm starting running all over again. 35 mins and I felt knackered and my legs were shaking like I'd run a long race.

Down Parry's Lane, through Stoke Bishop, up Stoke Hill, then completed the loop around the Downs.

Knee much the same as yesterday. Felt like a niggle while running straight, but painful when turning. Stretched-out at the end by kicking my heels up to my ass. That really hurt the knee. As does stretching the hamstrings. Feeling a bit apprehensive about the weekend now.

Wednesday Oct 8

Road Bike (Bike to work) 25:00 [2] 9.7 km (2:35 / km)
Road Bike (Bike home from work) 40:00 [3] 14.2 km (2:49 / km)
Run 23:50 [2] 5 km (4:46 / km)
ahr:140 max:152 shoes: Nike Air Zoom Vomero +3
Felt that I needed to test my knee and make sure that my legs can remember how to run before the weekend. I've entered two races and am really hoping that I can actually do them, not to mention the OMM.

One lap of the Downs on the pavement. Knee felt ok when running in a straight line, just felt like a niggle in the ligament. But turning to the left causes the bad knee to feel like it's about to give way and it hurts.

Going to try another run tomorrow then will decide what to do longer-term after the weekend.

Tuesday Oct 7

Road Bike (Bike to work) 25:00 [2] 9.7 km (2:35 / km)
Dark and wet this morning. Put my lights on for the first time. Winter ahoy.
Road Bike (Bike home from work) 40:00 [3] 14.2 km (2:49 / km)
Wind was beastly this evening.

Monday Oct 6

Road Bike (Bike to work) 25:00 [2] 9.7 km (2:35 / km)
Forgot to pump my tyres back up to rpad pressure after deflating them on Saturday. Could really feel the rolling resistance this morning.
