Bike on road (Bike to work) 20:00 [2] 6.75 km (20.3 kph)

Arghh my eyes! More head-on snow/sleet this morning.
5 PM

Bike on road (Bike home from work) 20:00 [3] 6.75 km (20.3 kph)

6 PM

Run - Off road (Monday night run) 1:12:30 [3] 13.4 km (5:25 / km)
ahr:139 max:168 shoes: Salomon XT Wings

Team Monday from our house. Me, Matt C, Matt F, Schnitzel, Mark S and Charles.

Loop around Badock Wood then into Blaise via the golf course. Very muddy and slippy in Blaise but good fun. Took us for a scramble up the Beech hill. Definitely one to save until it's dry...

Legs feeling quite tired after yesterday, but they weren't as bad as I was anticipating. The Schnitzel seemed to be gamboling along like a spring gazelle - something I thought I'd never write.

Note

I'm going to give orienteering a break for a while. I haven't been happy with it since last spring and every race I do just makes me more and more annoyed with myself. Apart from the easy New Forest races I've run I've not had a pleasing result for ages now. I've been putting a lot of time and effort into it over the last couple of years but feel like am getting nowhere.
Getting fitter, yes, but getting better certainly not and it's just demoralising. I'll do the JK, British and any others that are convenient, but that's all. I'll still do Team Mondays and go to the Team Monday technical training nights when they start up again. I need to have a break from it and hope that my enthusiasm will improve over the coming year.
10 AM

Run - Terrain warm up/down 10:00 [3] 1.5 km (6:40 / km)
shoes: VJ Supra

Bit of rush to the start - got there 1 minute before my call-up.
11 AM

Orienteering race (Southern Champs) 2:21:00 [4] 13.8 km (10:13 / km) +650m 8:16 / km
shoes: VJ Supra

Lydney Park. After yesterday's poor show I was determined to make today count. Nah ah. Did a proper Britton once again.

#1 was fine - can actually say I spiked it. #2 was not. My 6 minute man Rich Robinson punched it before I did. I'd overshot it somehow missing the big yellow ride catching feature immediately behind it, although turns out I actually ran straight past the control and didn't notice.

Caught Rich up at #3, then he went right and I went left towards #4. We punched #4 at the same time. 5&6 we ran together, then he out ran me to the road crossing and he didn't stop. Caught him again at #9, and overtook him to #10, only I couldn't actually find it. He did. My race was well and truly over.

I lost a lot of time trying to find the right depression at #11 and by then was thoroughly pi$$ed off. The rest of the course was probably 50/50 good and bad legs, particularly bad on #13, #26 and #29, but by then I really didn't care.

Then to top it off at download I got told off by the computer man cos I'd not read the line in the final details that said anyone with a type 5 dibber needs to pick up a newer one as there are 33 controls. My run hadn't registered as me and he clearly didn't want to bother reinstating me on my own dibber. I wasn't in the mood to argue and was quietly pleased that my name wasn't going to appear on the results.

2 PM

Run - Terrain warm up/down 11:45 [2] 1.7 km (6:55 / km)
shoes: VJ Supra

Jog to the start with Laura and Tom

Orienteering race (NGOC middle race) 48:02 [5] 6.5 km (7:23 / km) +160m 6:35 / km
ahr:166 max:179 shoes: VJ Supra

Malards Pike South.

At the start with Tom, discussing who should go first. I said "if you're behind me, it'll probably make me run too fast and I'll make mistakes. If you're in front, I'll probably run too fast trying to catch you and I'll make mistakes". I went first and I wasn't wrong.

Couldn't find #1, unclean on #2 & #3, lost a lot of time looking for #5 then I saw Tom on his way out of it. The rest of the race was the two of us playing cat & mouse, more-or-less taking in turns in the lead.

Scrappy race, long way off the mark. Bad start to the weekend, but it was very nice to be running in snow in (relatively) warm sunshine.

Ran in shorts thinking it felt quite mild. 30 mins after arriving at work it started snowing and hasn't stopped by midday.
4 PM

Run - Road (Run home from work) 13:00 [3] 3.0 km (4:20 / km)
shoes: Nike Air Zoom Vomero +3

And back to the garage to pick up the car.

1 PM

Run - Off road 34:30 [2] 7.4 km (4:40 / km)
shoes: Salomon XT Wings

Lunchtime run along Three Brooks Way on my own. Too busy at work to do the usual 10km, so cut it short by heading back through Patchway on road. Nice to get out even though it was raining and my legs felt like lead.
