Orienteering long (OMM Day 2) 6:30:00 [4] 28.0 km (13:56 / km) +2300m 9:52 / km
shoes: inov-8 Trailroc 235

Had a reasonable night in the Laser Comp, thanks to Dr Bown, but woke up to low cloud, sleet, and strong wind. Cue Keith for today's navigating.

Managed to be late for our start, but only by a minute. After a short loop on Boar Fell we crossed over to the Howgills for some more technical more hilly more route choice orienteering.

A lot of steep ascents and descents which sapped my legs of energy. I had a real low point between 5 & 6 and was having dark thoughts about quitting, but Keith put me right and I soon perked up after eating a Clif bar. Made a couple of nav mistakes up in the cloud, but no worse than I routinely make in orienteering races.

Some long ridge runs in gale force sleet, and some more steep ridge-valley traverses saw us to the last few controls and we both got a lift as we completed the last big climb. A great fun downhill race for the last few km.

Soaked through, we were dead chuffed to finish 10th overall.

Howgill Fells, A Course with Keith.

Very cold, very windy but bright sun offering a bit of warmth out of the wind.

Started in the Howgills with some reasonable route choice legs but most of the course was more of a fell race in the neighbouring Boar and Baugh Fells. No real issues nav wise, and no real issues running-wise either. Managed to keep fuel levels up and body temp at a comfortable running temp.

We didn't know what to expect results-wise. Finished in 11th place which was pleasing and which gave us a good top-10 target for Day 2.

Run - Road (Poole Runners) 40:00 [3] 9.5 km (4:13 / km)
shoes: Inov-8 Road-X 255

Mindful that I have bit of running to do this weekend I did just a half route of the Broadstone Figure Of Eight with Gavin.

Pace was still quite fast, faster than I'd have liked, but after Gavin had finished racing the front guys (and girl) we slowerd down for the last couple of km.

A steady run around Poole Quay, up through the 'burbs towards Parkstone, exploring unchartered roads until I came out at Parkstone Station and I knew where I was. Headed back down to the water and back along the quay.

Lovely calm mild evening.
