3 loops on Sauchie, ForestGrump around for parts. Very nice forest! Very usable despite some (generally well mapped) bits of windblow. Getting a bit dark at the end

Checking out Mine Woods for my night-o in 2 weeks. Really cool area! Had to do minor map surgery in quite a few places (mostly taking off green bits which are now white). Urban bit of map is crap, and the woods are a bit skewed, but good enough. Should be a really nice course, although I am glad I went to run round it in the day first! Hilly...

(rest day)

My calf (actually my peroneus probably) has been pretty sore since the contouring on Sunday, and I felt a little sore throat. Body telling me to rest!

Long run in Ochils with Mark. Started with Will and Roger, but they got lost (?) heading to Ben Buck and we didn't see them after that. Started a bit north from Sheriffmuir Inn (near Harperstone), up to Glentye Hill, then Mickle Corum, Greenforet Hill, Blairdenon Hill, across Alva Moss and up Ben Buck. Will and Roger weren't in sight (and were last seen heading towards Ben Ever?), so we carried on up to Ben Cleuch. Then down to Ben Ever, along Millar Hill to Rough Knowes. Then we straight-lined it across Silver Glen and did a brutal climb straight up the Nebbit. Down to Alva Glen, and up the 'road' to the end, then contouring up West Cameron Burn. Starting to get tired, and endless contouring was making my R calf pretty sore. Happy to get up on top again at Menstrie Moss, but then we had another epic contour round Blairdenon, Greenforet and Mickle Corum to get home. Bit longer than planned, but happy to finally scratch my Nebbit itch.

Exploring the Trossachs! Dropped F in Callandar (who then ran along the Loch side), and drove on to Strathyre. Up to Ben Shian (steep) and back down through the woods. Some nice bits, lots of overgrown/felled/blown over bits. Disappointing.

Another normal bog-standard day in Stirling. Blue sky, gorgeous views in all directions. Big hills to run up.
Started in Alva Glen, and ran across to Tillicoultry to warm up. Up past the quarry and up Mill Glen. Straight up The Law (with absolutely no "I am the law" quotes going through my head), then Andrew Gannel, Ben Cleuch, Ben Buck, across to Blairdenon Hill (still missed that sodding footpath). Quick nip down to Greenforet Hill, then back over Blairdenon to Craighorn. Wanted to get in Ben Ever and the Nebbit on the way down, but was over my time limit, so headed back down The Ogles instead, and back down Alva Glen.

FVO night-o at Abbey Craig. Binned 1 min at number 1 in the big crowd of people milling around looking for a small stone on a slope - spongey was off. Good after that, running alone the whole way, lost a bit at number 15 (crag in brackeny slope). Thought Ali was ahead, but he wasn't....

Fab long run with Mark from Dollar. Started by Castle Campbell, up over Hillfoot Hill, Commonedge Hill and Auchlinsky Hill. Down to Burnfoot, then up along the ridge of Glenquey Hill, Innerdownie, Bentie Knowe to Whitewisp Hill and Tarmangie Hill. Down and up the tough climb to King's Seat, then floating back down the Banks of Dollar and over Bank Hill to the castle. Stunning day, great weekend!

Trossachs intervals with Mark. Epic. 6*1km intervals (roughly), with about 2-3 mins recovery between.

My map was covered in blood and partly dissolved by the time I got to number 13, so I pretty much ran on compass to number 14, and the crags and control weren't even on my map at number 21! Just a splodge of ink. Otherwise pretty good except a small miss at 6.

Ochils again. Out from Alva, up Silver Glen to Benbuck Burn, then up to the top of Craighorn. Back down to Alva Moss (like the top of Kinder up there! never found the path). Over to Blairdenon Hill - properly snowing by this point, visibility less than 50m. Then down across Menstrie Moss and up Bengengie and along to Mid Cairn. Back down to Alva direct down Torry and Wee Torry - steep descent!

First victory in Scottish hills at Dumyat Dash. Cold, wet and windy (normal?).

Couple of young guys went off fast, but I caught them at the top of the first climb and pushed on with one (looked about 15?) on the flatter track. Had about 15s lead there, and maybe 30s on 4th place. Then we turned off the track. The marshall said to aim right - straight into a wall of chest high bracken. Ran left a bit, then cut in. Waded for about 2 mins, then saw the guy in 4th cruising down a path 100m to my left! Was bit pissed off, and rejoined in 3rd, about 20-30s down on the guy who had been 4th. Caught him and the other guy half way up Dumyat, and took the lead again. Made it to the top about 5s before the others, and then launched off the top.

One of the guys (Andrew Norman) was an epic descender (at least better than me!), and so I tried valiantly to follow him down. We made a huge gap on the steeper rougher section, the others weren't in sight coming onto the path. Then my superior flat speed took me away from him along the narrow slippery path, but I was wary of his descending ability for the last bit down into town, so I tried to push on, and was maybe 15s ahead of him coming into the hairpins. Then I missed a small short-cut turning, only a couple of seconds, but it was enough for him to be back in, with only fast downhill running into the finish. Into the last bend he was on my shoulder, and with my legs feeling like jelly, I gave everything I had, almost tripped over the curve with 50m to go, and slid over the grass to the finish line - a small dip and I probably won by about 1/10th of a second - both of us went Klinsmanning over the wet grass behind the finish line - what an amazing race!

Hard to say if the course has changed (we certainly were marshalled a different way to the course map!), but by my watch, I missed Prasad's record by 2 seconds.

Trail/terrain running warm up/down 30:00 intensity: (9:00 @1) + (14:00 @2) + (7:00 @3) 5.3 km (5:40 / km) +200m 4:46 / km

Moved up to Stirling last night, spent most of the day unpacking, moving furniture, shopping etc, but it was a lovely day, so F and I went for a light jog around town via castle and monument.
