Note

Top 10 films of the year (of films that I saw in the cinema in 2015)

#1 Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
Saving the best until last. Perhaps not the greatest film of the year, but definitely my favourite. Kind of a 'greatest' hits of the original trilogy and I can't wait for the next one!
11 AM

Trail/terrain running 1:00:00 intensity: (9:00 @1) + (44:00 @2) + (7:00 @3) 12.1 km (4:58 / km)

Usual from home. Wet and muddy - paths are streams again. Tired legs from yesterday.
6 PM

Strength and conditioning 45:00 [0]

2 wind assisted tempo climbs up The Law (thanks Frank). Started at the footbridge. About 1.6km with 450m climb. Ran down pretty quickly both times too.

Trail/terrain running 57:00 intensity: (8:00 @1) + (34:00 @2) + (15:00 @3) 12.0 km (4:45 / km)

Usual run from home. Very muddy, but at least the paths aren't underwater any more. Bumped into one of the planners of the course of the year.

Trail/terrain running 1:35:00 intensity: (32:00 @1) + (58:00 @2) + (5:00 @3) 20.5 km (4:38 / km)

From Kilmington to Brueton via White Sheet Downs (some kind of ancient fort which now looks like bumps in a field), Stourhead and Alfred's Tower.

Note

Top 10 films of the year (of films that I saw in the cinema in 2015)

#6 Antman - much more fun than big brother Age of Ultron.
10 AM

Orienteering 55:00 intensity: (1:00 @1) + (33:00 @2) + (21:00 @3) 8.9 km (6:11 / km)

'Middle distance' (actually 44 minutes) then a 'sprint' (enlarged map) at Norbury Park - which my dad has been remapping for the last 9 months. Pretty good attempt for a first proper map, slightly over-mapped but everything in the right place.

Trail/terrain running warm up/down 34:00 [1] 6.2 km (5:29 / km)

Friday Dec 25, 2015 #

Long run in the Surrey Hills, skirting the embargoed area.
Wet and muddy. Bit of a struggle at times.

Note

Top 10 films of the year (of films that I saw in the cinema in 2015)

#8 Birdman.

Seemingly all in one long take, unusual and memorable.
5 PM

Trail/terrain running 1:01:00 intensity: (9:00 @1) + (51:00 @2) + (1:00 @3) 14.1 km (4:20 / km)

Was going to go orienteering with Jonny, but Southwest trains said no.

Steady by the canal

Note

Top 10 films of the year (of films that I saw in the cinema in 2015)

#9 Jurassic World

Loving Chris Pratt. All the best elements from the originals, and looked great.
10 AM

Trail/terrain running 1:20:00 intensity: (1:00 @1) + (47:00 @2) + (32:00 @3) 17.9 km (4:28 / km)

Flight was delayed (obviously) so late night and bit tired for this.

Goldsworth Park, Horsell Common, Fairoaks, McLaren Park. HR was a bit higher than usual.

Tuesday Dec 22, 2015 #

Note

Top 10 films of the year (of films that I saw in the cinema in 2015)

#10 Chappie
Narrowly edging out In The Heart of the Sea (spent most of it wondering where Chris Hemsworth's accent was supposed to be). Not as good as Elysium or District 9, but still very entertaining and Die Antwoord was the soundtrack of the spring Mora training camps.
11 AM

Strength and conditioning 50:00 [0]

Usual, with lots of planks.

Flying to London later

Monday Dec 21, 2015 #

11 AM

Trail/terrain running warm up/down 24:00 intensity: (18:00 @1) + (6:00 @2) 4.4 km (5:27 / km)

Orienteering 1:01:00 intensity: (4:00 @1) + (14:00 @2) + (28:00 @3) + (15:00 @4) 10.8 km (5:39 / km)

Most of the M21 course from Spartacus Cup long distance last month, again in the Vertes Hills. Really nice area, and good (very detailed) map. Great terrain for long distance, but although this course was at 1:15,000, there were quite a few short legs too.
Doing pretty well, except for one horrendous direction error when planning ahead. Hit my knee after 80% of the course, tried to run it off, but stiffening up so jogged back to the car.

Sunday Dec 20, 2015 #

11 AM

Trail/terrain running long 2:32:00 intensity: (2:07:00 @1) + (25:00 @2) 29.8 km (5:06 / km) +500m 4:42 / km

Long run with F in the Vertes Hills. Visited 3 castles, and saw very little because of the fog. Not as hilly as I was expecting. Pretty muddy though.

Saturday Dec 19, 2015 #

10 AM

Trail/terrain running 1:30:00 intensity: (35:00 @1) + (40:00 @2) + (12:00 @3) + (3:00 @4) 18.0 km (5:00 / km)

Nice run around Budakeszierdo (Budakeszi forest) and Janoshegy (the big hill west of the city). Bit slippy in places. Very foggy so no views today.
4 PM

Strength and conditioning 50:00 [0]

Friday Dec 18, 2015 #

1 PM

Orienteering 46:00 intensity: (14:00 @1) + (21:00 @2) + (11:00 @3) 6.9 km (6:40 / km)

Sprint training round Budapest Citadel. Really cool area - very very steep though. Would make an ace Mixed Sprint Relay (split sprint WOC in Budapest with the individual race around the castle?).

Trail/terrain running 48:00 [1] 7.8 km (6:09 / km)

To and from the Citadel through the parks.

Thursday Dec 17, 2015 #

Note

Didn't sleep great, up early to fly to Budapest. Flight delayed, failed to pick up a hire car, so bus and train instead. Then fell asleep instead of training :). Felt much better after.

Wednesday Dec 16, 2015 #

9 AM

Note

All day surveying again - finished with 30 mins of light left
5 PM

Road/track running 51:00 intensity: (21:00 @1) + (30:00 @2) 11.0 km (4:38 / km)

Glen Road - Bridge of Allan loop.

Swimming 40:00 [2]

Straight into the pool. Definitely getting quicker.

Tuesday Dec 15, 2015 #

10 AM

Note

Surveying using all available day light.
6 PM

Trail/terrain running 1:01:00 intensity: (21:00 @1) + (31:00 @2) + (9:00 @3) 12.3 km (4:58 / km)

Swimming 30:00 [2]

Then straight into the pool.
Either getting quicker, or can't count.

Trail/terrain running 42:00 intensity: (29:00 @1) + (13:00 @2) 8.7 km (4:50 / km)

Easy round GC and Laighills. Glorious winter day - sunny and frosty. Calf felt ok.

Saturday Dec 12, 2015 #

11 AM

Spinning intervals 2:00:00 intensity: (31:00 @1) + (10:00 @2) + (29:00 @3) + (50:00 @4)

8*10mins (2mins) on the spinning bike. First two as a sort of warm up then in Zone 4 as much as possible after that.

Really hard going on the last 3. Good tunes helped me get through it. Loving the Scooter.

One, two, three, FIRE!
2 PM

Note

Tried to get out surveying after, but completely braindead
7 PM

Trail/terrain running 33:00 intensity: (29:00 @1) + (4:00 @2) 6.1 km (5:25 / km)

Easy jog with F round the GC. Still feeling the calf.

Few squats and some balance work while waiting for F.

Road/track running 46:00 intensity: (1:00 @1) + (38:00 @2) + (7:00 @3) 10.5 km (4:23 / km)

Kinbuck/Cromlix loop. Strong headwind on way back from Cromlix.
6 PM

Trail/terrain running 28:00 intensity: (15:00 @1) + (10:00 @2) + (3:00 @3) 4.0 km (7:00 / km)

Warm up for night-o at Minewoods, and first 3 controls.
R calf was a bit tight after this mornings run, and it really tightened up again. No point taking any risks so walked back to the car. Frustrating after just getting the hamstring right again.

Tuesday Dec 8, 2015 #

10 AM

Note

Finishing off Gallamuir Woods - will be really nice - night race in Feb. Proper forest, almost untouched by humans.

Calm after the storm - what a difference a day makes! Cracking day - shame not to make it up some hills, but too soon. Hamstring felt fine, no pain at all, but I was aware it wasn't quite right still.

Up to Sheriffmuir monument, along the new pylon road a bit, then over the Sheriffmuir bit of the Dumyat map to the reservoir. Crossed over from Pendreich into Hermitage Woods, then through the field to Minewoods, and then back up by the Allan. Saw a red squirrel in Minewoods.

Note

Coaching session at Sauchie almost didn't happen because half of Scotland is currently underwater - including the M9 this morning! Made it there a bit late, as did all but 2 of the participants, so therefore as of 2pm I am now a UKCC Level 2 orienteering coach.
6 PM

Road/track running 49:00 intensity: (11:00 @1) + (33:00 @2) + (5:00 @3) 10.8 km (4:32 / km)

Swimming 30:00 [2]

Friday Dec 4, 2015 #

10 AM

Trail/terrain running 59:00 intensity: (43:00 @1) + (16:00 @2) 8.3 km (7:07 / km)

Checking and hanging for tomorrow training session in Sauchie. Not too bad, just a few twinges. Should be fine next week
5 PM

Strength and conditioning 1:00:00 [0]

Trying out some different core training this winter - doing more with the exercise ball and medicine ball to challenge myself after 3-4 winters of doing pretty much the same stuff.

Did purely exercise ball stuff today - exercises 8-18 of these (except for 14 which I don't seem to have the back flexibility for). Couldn't work out 19 at all - kept just falling off. 15 was just weird! Didn't really feel any benefit.
Single leg 4 was how I strained my hamstring last week.

http://greatist.com/fitness/workout-stability-ball...

Threw in a few of these at the end too, but was getting tired by that point - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NzQw88-xANk

Looking forward to trying a few of these - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C1zlZjpTzQ4

Any suggestions? Not interested in leg exercises - do plenty of leg training already.

Thursday Dec 3, 2015 #

8 AM

Note

6 hours out at Gallamuir again. Lots of wildlife, and even a couple of contours.
7 PM

Swimming 1:00:00 [2]

Aquajogging 5:00 [2]

Tried it, but it seemed to stress my hamstring more than running

Wednesday Dec 2, 2015 #

11 AM

Swimming 30:00 [2]

12 PM

Note

Half a day surveying Gallamuir Wood - really nice bit of woods!
6 PM

Trail/terrain running 31:00 intensity: (20:00 @1) + (11:00 @2) 6.3 km (4:55 / km)

Very easy round Dunblane GC to see if hamstring has improved. Slightly better than yesterday, but not worth risking doing more.

Tuesday Dec 1, 2015 #

12 PM

Road/track running 45:00 intensity: (25:00 @2) + (20:00 @3) 10.5 km (4:17 / km)

Kinbuck loop. Bit icy

Running drills / plyometrics 16:00 [0] 1.6 km (10:00 / km)

Hill plyometrics - springing, high knees, bounding and sprints
7 PM

Trail/terrain running 50:00 intensity: (6:00 @1) + (25:00 @2) + (19:00 @3) 10.1 km (4:57 / km)

Steady Strathallan loop. Warm, so basically all the snow/ice melted and turned the paths into streams.

Strained my L hamstring a little yesterday on the exercise ball.
