Trail/terrain running 1:33:00 intensity: (18:00 @1) + (52:00 @2) + (23:00 @3) 18.3 km (5:05 / km) +400m 4:35 / km

Calm after the storm - what a difference a day makes! Cracking day - shame not to make it up some hills, but too soon. Hamstring felt fine, no pain at all, but I was aware it wasn't quite right still.

Up to Sheriffmuir monument, along the new pylon road a bit, then over the Sheriffmuir bit of the Dumyat map to the reservoir. Crossed over from Pendreich into Hermitage Woods, then through the field to Minewoods, and then back up by the Allan. Saw a red squirrel in Minewoods.

Note

Coaching session at Sauchie almost didn't happen because half of Scotland is currently underwater - including the M9 this morning! Made it there a bit late, as did all but 2 of the participants, so therefore as of 2pm I am now a UKCC Level 2 orienteering coach.
6 PM

Road/track running 49:00 intensity: (11:00 @1) + (33:00 @2) + (5:00 @3) 10.8 km (4:32 / km)

Swimming 30:00 [2]

Then jumped straight into the pool

Trail/terrain running 59:00 intensity: (43:00 @1) + (16:00 @2) 8.3 km (7:07 / km)

Checking and hanging for tomorrow training session in Sauchie. Not too bad, just a few twinges. Should be fine next week

Strength and conditioning 1:00:00 [0]

Trying out some different core training this winter - doing more with the exercise ball and medicine ball to challenge myself after 3-4 winters of doing pretty much the same stuff.

Did purely exercise ball stuff today - exercises 8-18 of these (except for 14 which I don't seem to have the back flexibility for). Couldn't work out 19 at all - kept just falling off. 15 was just weird! Didn't really feel any benefit.
Single leg 4 was how I strained my hamstring last week.

Threw in a few of these at the end too, but was getting tired by that point - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NzQw88-xANk

Looking forward to trying a few of these - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C1zlZjpTzQ4

Any suggestions? Not interested in leg exercises - do plenty of leg training already.

Note

6 hours out at Gallamuir again. Lots of wildlife, and even a couple of contours.
7 PM

Swimming 1:00:00 [2]

Aquajogging 5:00 [2]

Tried it, but it seemed to stress my hamstring more than running

Wednesday Dec 2, 2015 #

Swimming 30:00 [2]

12 PM

Note

Half a day surveying Gallamuir Wood - really nice bit of woods!
6 PM

Trail/terrain running 31:00 intensity: (20:00 @1) + (11:00 @2) 6.3 km (4:55 / km)

Very easy round Dunblane GC to see if hamstring has improved. Slightly better than yesterday, but not worth risking doing more.

12 PM

Road/track running 45:00 intensity: (25:00 @2) + (20:00 @3) 10.5 km (4:17 / km)

Kinbuck loop. Bit icy

Running drills / plyometrics 16:00 [0] 1.6 km (10:00 / km)

Hill plyometrics - springing, high knees, bounding and sprints
7 PM

Trail/terrain running 50:00 intensity: (6:00 @1) + (25:00 @2) + (19:00 @3) 10.1 km (4:57 / km)

Steady Strathallan loop. Warm, so basically all the snow/ice melted and turned the paths into streams.

Strained my L hamstring a little yesterday on the exercise ball.
