Note
(rest day)

Travelling home after WOC etc.

Weird week - only lasted 6 controls before injuring myself, and was obviously gutted to miss the relay, but I had a really fun week and enjoyed the company of my team mates immensely. Looking forward to WOC 2017 now!

Cycling 1:23:00 [1] 24.0 km (3:28 / km)

Nice cruise out over Dafto to Salto with Spongey and Peter running alongside. Tougher than I expected, but my bike did have only 3 gears, no proper brakes and a basket on the front.

Trail/terrain running warm up/down 25:00 intensity: (10:00 @1) + (10:00 @2) + (5:00 @3) 5.0 km (5:00 / km)

WU (no CD for obvious reasons)

Orienteering race 40:00 [5] 6.0 km (6:40 / km)

WOC middle. Nice terrain, map, course.
Started well. Heard my ankle crack when I jumped down a crag on the way to 7 and landed badly. No way I was going to stop though. Was a bit slow 7-8-9 but 'ran it off'. Really hesitant descending though, and through any rocky stuff. Ran well on the long legs, and across to 17 I could see Howald in front of me.
Coming out of 17 I smacked my opposite shin on something, which was extremely painful and quite distracting. Also made me think more about the ankle as well, and I was really scrappy on the last loop, especially 21 and 22. Struggling to focus on the orienteering, and thinking more about the running/injuries/if I would be able to run the relay etc.

Pushed hard to the finish, then stiffened up almost immediately to the point where I could hardly walk around the arena. Got some treatment for the ankle, and only remembered the shin when I was changing. Big bit of loose flesh hanging off, and a nice big hole too. Off for stitches, then back home to get recovering.

19th place not too bad, but I'm not really interested in 'more top 20s' any more...
