Morning jog with F. Loop of Evora - the other way this time.
12 PM

Orienteering 1:17:00 intensity: (3:00 @3) + (1:08:00 @4) + (6:00 @5) 19.5 km (3:57 / km)

POM long distance WRE. Rapid terrain, but still enough interest to make it really fun orienteering. Good race, caught up Haakon JW about 1/3 way round, and had a good battle with him - I was in front for most until the last 4 controls - I took a bad RC to the spectator control and then was chasing him to the finish.
Ended up 4th - not far behind Timo, but a few mins down on the Swiss superstars.

Morning jog round Evora city walls with F, followed by a massive buffet breakfast.

POM model map. Rapid, but not trivial.

POM other model map - much greener and bushier, and sun setting at eye height so much more challenging.

Friday Feb 9 #

Last morning jog by the sea. Then travelling to Evora and POM via some dinosaur footprints, 2 castles and a boat trip. #culture

Tricky session on 1:7500/1:4000 in the dunes. Map a bit out of date. Lots of controls, hard to see the tapes some times. Finally very tired.

Night-o intervals with 2 min break. Vegetation was pretty crap - lots of forestry work. Running well but brain tired - made one bigger mistake and had to skip some rest to catch up the group.

Quite good, just a couple of small mistakes on a very tricky course. I 'won', as Kirmula took the wrong control at number 8, but he was 20s quicker than me otherwise. Running with Olli and Jan was a mixed blessing - I was basically doing better when I was alone.

Longer session in the Leirosa dunes, part normal map, part contour only, and part with paths taken off. Pretty good - one confusing vague green bit, and got a bit distracted once after catching Jan up.

Night diamond training with KR boys and Finnish military team. Wave start and lots of forking. Decent performance, stuck in green +30s once, and one 30s wobble. Low speed.

Monday Feb 5 #

Morning jog. Noticeably a plod today, and most guys stayed in bed after the weekend! Better after though.

Orienteering 54:00 intensity: (16:00 @1) + (38:00 @2) 6.6 km (8:11 / km)

Last session in the hills before heading down to the coast. In last year's ABOM terrain - really rocky and green, combined with low effort made this a very slow training! Fun though, and really warm today.
