SOL 5 at Anagach

I knew coming into it I had no real chance as ive only been in terrain once since the summer. Ran cleanly until I blew 1min on the vague No.7 and 2 mins on No.14 I dont think a lack of pratice and the effects of my recent training can account for all of the 7 mins I lost to Cherry who was beastly, but I reckon it explains how I was fourth, 1min somthing down on second. I ran 1min/k faster at the 6days in Anagach. No worries.

Didnt get up to my aunties until 6pm so we just went to Culbin which was 20mins away and did a few controls on the british relay champs map. Was good. Might put routes up later.

Friday Sep 26

Football 1:00:00 [2]
on the astro at Meadowbank.

We cant make the Lossie Event as planned on Saturday as my brother has a morning football game, so were gonna go up in the afternoon and do some training in Culbin as were staying with relatives 10 mins from there.

Thursday Sep 25

Road Running 52:00 10.5 km (4:57 / km) +100m 4:44 / km
shoes: Asics GT-2130
Fartlek 5,4,3,5,4,3 with 2 mins in between plus a bit easy either side. Not a very good session, struggled to push on the hard sections and was a bit short of the time I wanted to be out.

Sorted out my winters racing. Gonna try and fit a load of races in up to new year then build up the training more in January, that being said, Im not gonna take many races too serious, just a chance to test form and get a hard session in. 2 and a bit weeks until the first xc of the year.

Did 16x1min on the radical road starting at the top of Hunters Bog. It was pitch black for the last 5. Felt all the better for a rest day. Ran to and from the hill reps.

Going up to the Stirling Open Day tomorrow so gonna do a sesh up there.

Hill/Road Run 56:00 8 km (7:00 / km) +450m 5:28 / km
shoes: Puma Trailfox
Did 5min flat out from Dudd. Village to the bit just below where the fence beside the path to the top of AS starts. Jogged down, was gonna do 5mins from the road as high as possible but was feeling good so carried on to the top. Did 5.45 to the top. Felt I was a bit weedy at the start so re ran it pushing harder at the start. Managed 5.20. Reckon I could do sub 5mins easy if not as part of a set. Jogged back via hunters bog and Pollock roundabout.

I feel far more strong on the hills than flat. Gonna have to work on the flat speed some.

QuickPost

Local event at Bush Estate. Had to get two buses there, and a 30min walk either side of the buses because my mum is away. Was a bit tired and unfocussed, but the course was well easy so it didnt matter. Missed one minute in total which is rubbish for such an area, but it was fun.

Time Losses:

10s getting stuck in the crap on the way out of No.4

30s on 11 by cutting up too early, twice. Should have gone all the wau to the gate by the control.

10s on 14 was 20m too far east.

10s hesitating when not seeing the control.

Just a short run on AS with ome terrain and a few tough hills. Theres been even more rock falls on Salisbury Crags, some of the boulders that have fallen down the big slope onto the grass by the road are big - big enough to be mapped at least.
Core Stabilty 15:00 [1]
Went to a Uni thing with the school today where they had people from each of the main UK unis who you could talk to and ask questions. Definitely between Stirling or Edinburgh, although atm I'd rather Stirling coz I dont wanna go to uni 15 mins from my house.

NJAL UK finals

The top race in GB for U20s, so it was always going to be tough. Had a sore head in the warm up. The 6 hour drive down probably didnt help much. Hurdled very poorly and two foot landed the water jump twice. Ended up in second last, but still took 50s off my PB, reckon when I step up to U20 next year and race more over 2k I can push towards 6.45 or so.

The club finished 4th, which is good as over half of us were U17s. The winners get to go to the European finals in Serbia at the end of the month. Reckon we can win the league in a year or two. Aspecially as we have a load of good U15s moving up next year, as well of none of our good runners moving to senior next year.

Saturday Sep 13

Road Running 56:00 [3] 10.5 km (5:20 / km) +100m 5:05 / km

Just a quick lap of the seat and the run to Pollock roundabouts and back. Decided to go down to Derby way early tomorrow instead of going down today and staying in Nottingham. This is gonna be way the toughest race of my life and I expect to be way last, as there will be several guys doing the steeplechase in sub 6mins.

Couldnt get out till late. Did a shortened version of a session I used to do at 13/14 of 2min on/off round the Queens Drive. I only did one lap instead of the two I used to do because it was getting dark and I didn't want to overdo it before track this weekend.

Wednesday Sep 10

Note
(rest day)
Got 100m out of the door and decided I just couldn't be bothered. Think I might just tape one of my legs into a stretching position, sit and eat, start logging stretching and use this to make up the training time....

Event: UKA Young Athletes League Final

WarmUp/Down 40:00 [1] 4 km (10:00 / km)
shoes: Asics GT-2130
This was quite an amazing experience. The event was set up in the same way as the international matches are. We arrived and were given passes to get in, as spectators had to pay to enter the stadium. We then had to use our passes to enter the warm up area (a 200m indoor track and surrounding area.

I had a long time to wait before my event so I watched a bit of the other events. Every other time our club has qualified for the final we have finished last in the team results, as has every other scottish club. We were told that in the Auxillary final yesterday that Giffnock had finished last (we were hard pushed to beat them in the scottish finals) So we knew it would be tough.

Eventually I got my chance to go and warm up, so headed to the indoor track an hour before the start of my first race, as we had to report to the officials indoors 20 mins before the start of our race. The warm up area was quite busy, but while I was in there I was warming up next to the british number one for 100m, who has run a 10.5 at the age of 16.

When we went out on the track the loudspeaker would announce the event as we walked in a line round the outside of the track to the 3000m start. We then had people with boxes for us to put clothes and bottles etc. in which were taken to the finish for us.

3000m race

Ran poorly as I had woken up with a bad cold, was off the pace from the start and was struggling to get any speed. Ran 10 min 12, which is shocking, all though no surprise as ive been ill this week. Got a bronze medal for finishing 3rd in the B race but im not very pleased.
Track race 5:23 [5] 1.5 km (3:35 / km) vdot: 51.6
shoes: Nike Zoom Milers
1500m s/c

This was the last event and after a 5 hour gap between races, sitting in the cold, I felt very bad and could barely warm up at all. Ran poorly, although I hurdled well. Finished way down again although the level was so high as it was against some of the best runners in the country. Minging time.

The team came fourth overall behind Sale harriers, Blackheath and Bromley, and Windsor, Slough, Eton and Hounslow (WSE&H). This was by far the best result by a scottish team. Its a shame I will be too old next year as the league only goes up to U17. Its cool to be in the 4th best club in Britain.

We didnt get home until after midnight and I had been up since, 6am, so am very tired.

Hopefully ive done enough to get a run in the junior league UK finals in Derby next weekend, ill find out on Tuesday for definite

Training number two in the afternoon. Very wet and windy, ran up to Dunsapie Loch from Duddingston Village and up onto Whinney Hill. Ran around the outside of the top bit then down to Haggis Knowe, up the big valley bit and back down to Dunsapie and home. Felt good. I'm a lot stronger on the climbs than this time last year.

Session 3 (more like two and a half) coming up later today.
