Trossachs Long Race
Pretty awful again today. Good to No.1 missed a good 3.30 on no.2 and Matt passed me, I was in the next re entrant along from the control. No.4 I ran to the hill, spiked the hill thinking it was where the control was, it was in the re entrant to the side 30s gone. 5 I took too long a route round the control, 1min gone. No.6 did it cleanly, was getting into it a bit more. Coming out of the control saw Dave Abrams who started 6 mins after me about 1min down on me. 7 I nailed and caught 6mins on Stu. Short leg 8 got caught in all the thick green, losing 40s. No.9 was easy but I still missed it, despite being in a line of people from other courses all going to that control 20s. Dave finally caught me on the way to No.10, I took the long, slow route round the big hill and he took the faster route but I managed to come out beside him (probs 30s lost). He stopped to early and I nailed the control, then didnt see him again (I ended up beating him by 90s overall). Was too low on 11 and lost 30s. 13 I started going straight then realised it was slower and went round, so lost 20s. Peter caught me at 15. he was nailing it so I took a different route from him into the control and pulled around 45s over him as I think he missed it. Was on my own again till 18 when he caught me up again, then it was just a slog to the finish.
Total misses= 7.30mins
I simply am not good enough at orienteering, nowt else for it really. My technique hours just arent enough, combined with the fact that I came into the sport late means I just havent practiced enough. Also my running speed has improved so massivly in a short time and my nav isnt nearly up to it, so not just do I make mistakes but I cant run fast enough to really feel like im working hard in a race and still navigate cleanly.
