10 AM

Orienteering race 13:25 [5] 2.4 km (5:35 / km)
ahr:163 max:181

Macclesfield Town Sprint Prologue.
New map by Tom - I liked it, only one prob where I hunted for a control in the bus station, like many others - minor map correction needed.
Running well.
1 PM

Orienteering race 18:55 [5] 3.9 km (4:51 / km)
ahr:167 max:181

Macclesfield Sprint Final.
A fairly easy estate so ended up being cross country speed full on all the way. Tried to hold Kris off 4 minutes but failed round the 1:2k part in the school - boy going well.
A nice blast but too easy to call it orienteering.
3 PM

Run warm up/down 40:00 [3]

For all sessions.

Long drive back to Scotland....

Orienteering 1:00:00 [3]

Training at Macc Forest, planned by Tom Fellbaum. I hung parts of the courses - two short mass start relay sim courses with plenty of gaffles. Terrain mainly very runnable and most enjoyable.

1 PM

Orienteering race 41:40 [4]

Middle race at Macc Forest (the better bit).
Was knackered before I started, didn't like the big climb to 1, the lack of detailed mapping at 2, the poor veg mapping at 3, and so on..... A great area let down by a poor standard map. Later on I was poor standard too. hence miles back from the boys.
3 PM

Run warm up/down 20:00 [3]

Orienteering 1:30:00 [3]

Pre-JWOC Camp in Cheshire.
Drove to Walton Chaser land to try do some relevant Poland training on Brereton Spurs. A bit too brackeny to be perfectly Polish but good all the same. Did the collecting and runs between the two middle practice sessions.

Many thanks to Iain Stamp (SI hanger) and Cath Stodgehill (SI results guru) and WCH for use of the area (courses cut short to avoid a Buzzard ie more common than pigeons in Scotland).

Dropped the team off on the way back so they could enjoy the hills, rockas and views of the Roaches back to Gradbach Hostel (full of pesky kids).

Note

Pre-JWOC Camp - Gradbach Youth Hostel near Macclesfield.

Got let down on an Edinburgh minibus so had to hire one quickly in Stirling at great expense. Thankfully it went faster than 62 mile an hour and was a cooler looking 9 seater mercedes.

4pm leave, 10pm arrival.....

Orienteering race 45:00 [4]
ahr:145 max:167

FVO WEE at Polmaise.
Loving the new map and ability to weave your way through the rhodies.
No great misses, running OK, but taking it steady in the slippyness.
I won!
Followed by fab grub at the Portcullis.

Run 40:00 [3]

A wee run at Sauchie to check out further mapping.
Parked at far end and ran in and along the crag foot round the reservoir - most of it not worth the cost of mapping - but some fabby boulders here and there.
We now know where the full new extension will go, just need Marcus to come up now....

Managed to avoid the thunder and lightning, just. Didn't manage very successfully to meet up with Steve B or Rog. Another time.
