Fell Race 2:06:36 [3] 18.53 km (6:50 / km) +1011m 5:22 / km

Kentmere Horsehoe Fell Race.
Travelled down the night before with Housewife Ward and stayed with Claire Allison. Fun evening dining and drinking and catching up. Perhaps a little too much to drink....

Discovered late on that the race started at 1pm so a perfect opportunity for a lie in followed by a hearty breakfast a la Claire.

Hundreds of folk in the race and Claire and I rather foolishly started too near the back and spent the first 30 minutes of the race blocked on tiny paths behind punters. Once on the tops things improved and I felt quite good. Pushing the pace well but slightly hampered by the left hip flexor (leg lift). Anyway, sunny day, glorious views, great underfoot conditions (nice and soft for the most) meant a great run.

Had hoped for about 2 hours but the slow start put paid to that. I finished well, overtaking on the downhills and the undulating track to the finish.

No cramp! Lovely cool river to wallow in.

Fell Race 1:08:19 [5] 10.0 km (6:50 / km) +668m 5:07 / km

Maddy Moss fell race. Gorgeous sunny evening, massive turnout. Painful hill climb up the Law but ground it out. Not helped by having a prickly crotch as I got tripped at the start and straddled a gorse bush! Managed to squeeze past Jon before the top of the Law then really enjoyed the top section. Nice and soft underfoot and pretty fast. Left hip flexor struggling with the speed of the descent so not flat out and I chose to take care on the last vertical bit and lose 2 places. Legs will complain but hopefully not too much. Orienteer prize wipeout! Kris, GG, Ali, Jonny. Hollie then Charlotte. Followed by curry!
