running warm up/down 20:00 [1] 2.2 km (9:05 / km)

Warming up on and off for the Swiss champs in relay. ANCO put together two relay teams in DE and I was really excited to run in the terrain.

Orienteering race 58:11 [5] 5.4 km (10:46 / km) +220m 8:57 / km

I ran the 2nd leg with Kerria on number 1 and Lucia on leg 3. I figured if we all had good races, we could beat the other ANCO team (Sophei Wälti, Anais Catin, Chloé Blanc) even if on paper they seem stronger. Kerria proved me right on the first leg and came back before Sophie, but just by 30 seconds, so I figured I would see a lot of Anais during the race. On the way to the first control, Anais overtook me and I never saw her again. I was a bit surprised that she would be that much faster than me, so I kept hoping that she had made a mistake to the first control and that since I was running a really good race with no mistakes, that she may have not caught me yet. Turns out that this was the case and I was ahead of her the whole way, yupee. In the finish, she said she could see me ahead of her every once in a while but she couldn't catch up.
I was super concentrated during this whole race, I really wanted to get through without any major troubles. The altitude (2200m) made the running feel really hard and I was afraid I would get loopy at some point. Almost happen when i started reading from one control further into the spectator control, but I realised it quickly and managed to still go to the control I was about to skip. At the end I was really fighting the fatigue and had to check my map over and over again to be correct, but I got into the finish without any mistake. My time was the 10th fastest on that leg, pretty happy about that for an old lady. Lucia also ran a great race and I think we would have ended up 12th overall, but unfortunately, Kerria did not punch the water control where we went under the big road on another road. So sad! It's such typical mistake. Boo. Oh well. We still had so much fun racing and I am glad Lucia didn't know about it, because she fought hard out there and raced well. More fun for her that way.

So this was my last orienteering for the season. My foot operation is on Tuesday and I probably won't run anything else this year. Maybe something in November if it feels good, but I don't want to have any expectations and take the recovery seriously.
