running warm up/down 20:00 [2]4 km (5:00 / km)

Warming up and cooling down for my race.
Orienteering race 50:30 [5]**** 6.5 km (7:46 / km) +250m 6:31 / km
ahr:181 max:196 spiked:12/15c
Swiss Relay Champs.

I ran the first leg on a team consisting of Valerie Sutter on 2nd and Brigitte Mühlemann on the 3rd leg. I haven't been feeling good, and really noticed that my stores were low during the race. I couldn't push physically and the tempo felt really fast. I started well though, staying with the lead for about 1/3 of the race. Unfortunately I made a 1 minute mistake, misinterpreting where I was on the map and then running to the forked control. I lost the leaders and was basically on my own from then on out. I figured there would be a pack behind me that *could* catch me, so I tried to push as hard as I could. After the spectator on the last very short loop I made 2, 20 second mistakes, blah! I wasn't happy when I came into the finish, but my team mates were, so was nice. Ended up losing 4 minutes on the leaders coming in 8th position.

Valerie had an awesome race! She passed all of the runners except the team from Basel with Ines Brodmann on the 2nd leg, Lea Müller (3rd leg Basel) was send out with a 5 minute lead to our team. Simone N-L was send out 2 minute behind us. Even though Simone eventually caught Brigitte, Brigitte still had a great race and stay in 3rd! That means we got 3rd! and won a Swiss champs medal (wow!). I couldn't believe I got to stand up on that podium at a Swiss championships. yuppee!

Sidenote: granted there were a lot of women from the swiss team at the Euromeeting and therefore missing from this relay, but a bronze is a bronze and I took the medal home gladly.
C • Good going! You're making prog... 12
Note
yikes! it looks like I lost 2'50" to the best time on the 6th control. It didn't feel like I lost that much time in the circle, maybe I was slower getting there too. But in any case, that is way too much. :-(

Thursday Aug 30

running 42:06 [2]6.4 km (6:35 / km) +178m 5:47 / km
Running during my lunch break with a friend. Didn't feel that great. I wonder why, I took the last three (!) days off to get some rest after WOC.

Note
I wanted to go to a Sprint training near Bern tonight, but it's been raining so much and so hard that they closed the highway and major roads due to flooding. I got half-way there and had to turn around, everything was closed. This round trip drive should have taken 30 minutes took 1h30, ahhh what a waste!

Tuesday Aug 28

Note
Kiev has also given me a good-bye gift, a good dose of diarrhea and stomach cramps. ugg, fun...
