indoor bike (hometrainer) 1:05:00 [1]
ahr:125 max:139

My shin is doing better today, so I decided to give biking a try. I really don't want to have to start biking a lot again this year. Last year I had my share of indoor biking. No more (due to injury at least)!

running 23:42 3.11 km (7:37 / km) +75m 6:48 / km
ahr:135 max:151

An attempt to run and see how my shin feels. Well, the impact hurts, more so when I'm running downhill. The muscle is a little injured. Not sure if I can do jumps tomorrow in our strength training. Will have to see how it goes.

running drills and plyometrics 20:00 [2]

Went to the CEP gym early with Marc this morning. Finally slept the whole night through. It was nice:-)

strength 50:00 [2]

Getting back into the weights. Monday morning is going to hurt...

running warm up/down 12:54 2.18 km (5:55 / km)

Warming up for a sprint training in Neuenegg. Got there a little late, so I didn't have time for a longer warm-up.

Orienteering 36:07 4.25 km (8:30 / km) +40m 8:07 / km
ahr:158 max:186 shoes: Ice Bugs 2

This gps track and time includes the first sprint, which I have no splits for, but it was about 15 minutes worth of sprinting. Than it has the track for me picking up the controls of the second sprint. I managed to turn off my watch for the 2nd sprint.

On this first sprint I managed to fall twice. The first time should have been harmless, but was pretty fatal. A branch caught my right leg and made me trip, I was on the side of a very steep hill and I managed to jam my left shin into a stump very hard. I'm not sure why it turned out to be as bad as it is, all I know is that I was paralyzed for several steps and could hardly stand anymore. I got going again after limping a little (in a "race" you can basically always keep going). My second fall was shortly afterwards when I tried to gracefully take a shorter route down a very steep woods section. The ground is frozen, so I ended up slipping and sliding out of control all the way down on my butt. Didn't hurt myself though. Unfortunately my map stayed at the top of the hill, so I got to do the whole thing again... My shin hurt while running to the 2nd sprint and basically was killing me the rest of the way and during the time I picked up controls. By the time I got back to change my clothes I could hardly stand on that leg anymore. Turns out that half my shin swelled up (about the size of my hand from thumb to the little finger stretched out) and I have a pretty big gash too. Driving home was a nightmare, I had to bite my hand every time I pushed in the clutch with that foot. Spend the whole evening with ice on it and this morning I still can't walk correctly (and it is very blue)... total bummer. I wanted to run a long distance mass start O race in Bern today, but there is no way. I totally bruised the muscle and it would be a bad idea. Grr.

Orienteering race 9:48 [4] 1.2 km (8:10 / km)

2nd sprint. Less woods, more direction change. I had trouble staying ahead with the map reading and didn't have the "sprinting" flow. Shin hurt too. All in all though it was great to do some orienteering and I love sprints. Fun evening. Too bad it ruined my chances to run the long O race tomorrow.

skate skiing 1:02:56

Skiing during the sunset in the Jura. Wow, what a beautiful experience, everything turned this light purple color for the longest time. I didn't think it could get any prettier, but when i turned my head-lamp on, I was surprised by the glimmer of the snow all around me. Wonderful. Probably the most beautiful xc-skiing experience I've ever had. I am now also a big fan of xc-skiing in the dark with my head-lamp. That was so cool!

So jet-lag got the worst of me last night and I ended up only sleeping for 3 hours in the beginning of the night and then waking up around 2am to not be able to fall asleep again. On the bright side, I got to chat with Boris on facebook for a while. It was the middle of the afternoon for him.

Tired now.

Skiing with Luzia in Les Prés d'Orvin. It snowed about 30 cm last night up there and today the temperatures got really warm, so we kept sinking in on almost every step. Too bad, it could have been such great skiing. Ironically, Prés d'Orvin was totally in a fog cloud, which meant that it was drizzling rain on us the whole time. There were beautiful blue skies in Biel below us. Weird. It was great fun anyway and nice to catch up. Luzia is leaving for Australia for a year in two weeks. Gonna miss her.

running 21:31 [2] 3.1 km (6:57 / km) +70m 6:15 / km

Back in Switzerland and jet-lagged. I find jet-lag tough in this direction. Marc got me to go on a short run with him, which was good.
