Wednesday Jan 30

Running 10:00 [4]
We had a house assembly at school today where the four houses (Lakeside is divided into houses like in Harry Potter except they are only relevant during specific assemblies) competed in different activities, one of which was similar to an orienteering course around the campus. They called it just the running event, but they gave each team of two people (one guy and one girl) a map and we had to run to the place marked on the map and pick up a flag and bring that back to the auditorium. We were then given another map and we had to do it again. There were four flags total each team had to find. All the competitors were cross-country varsity runners, so i was trying to keep up with Steven (this really fast guy) the entire time since each pair had to stay together, more or less. It was really fun, but I didn't warm up or anything and I was basically sprinting around campus. And I got to read the map while running since I ended up with the map each time (the maps just had buildings and pathways). My team won that event! Yay Holcenburg!

Tuesday Jan 29

Running 30:44 [3] 3.2 mi (9:36 / mi)
shoes: Asics
I ran to Bitter Lake with Holly, Max, and William. We stopped there and had a mini snowball fight before returning to school. The distance is just an estimate.
Strength 12:00 [3]
nifty-nines
wall sits (2x1:00, 1x1:30)

Monday Jan 28

Running 23:43 [3] 2.8 mi (8:28 / mi)
shoes: Asics
Running to discovery park and back. It was a snow day today, although the snow was all melted at my house by the time I went running. I brought along a map with me.

I also did training 4 this morning, and I realized there are several map symbols I just don't know very well.
Strength 10:00 [3]
planks (1:00, 0:30x3, 1:00 front-side-back-side-front continuous)
wall sits (3 x 1:00)
push-up pyramid

Sunday Jan 27

Note
I spent a little while this evening doing trainings 2 and 3 that Ekaterina sent out. I'm going to try and do them everytime they get emailed out, but I was kind of behind. I'm also going to try and catch up and 4 and 5 tomorrow.
C • I've only done #4. And gosh... 6

Friday Jan 25

Running 25:00 [3] 3.01 mi (8:18 / mi)
shoes: Asics
Max and I ran around Haller Lake. I brought my GPS watch (I still haven't tested it around a track) and it said that it was 3.01 miles (plus or minus a tiny bit since i had to double the distance from lakeside to the light because i couldn't start it since it hadn't located the satellites yet). So, that loop is about 3 miles like everyone said, although I had thought it was a little less.
Strength 15:00 [3]
nifty-nines, planks, wall sits.
my arms and abs were sore from yesterday.

Thursday Jan 24

Running 24:48 [3] 3.0 mi (8:15 / mi)
shoes: Asics
I ran around Haller Lake. I was going climbing after school, but I still wanted to get a run in so I went during one of my long frees. I brought along a map to practice choosing routes. I couldn't find anyone to run with me since everyone either didn't want to or was in class.
C • What free was it? 6
Strength 15:00 [3]
Nifty-nines and push-up pyramid after my run. (I forgot that I was going to get an arm-strength workout with climbing later.)
rock climbing 2:00:00 [3]
Climbing with the school climbing club again. I was already kind of tired from running and push-ups earlier, but I was able to do a bunch of climbs (mostly 5.9s) so it was fun. My arms are really tired now.

Tuesday Jan 22

Note
I was going to go running a couple times this weekend (I had Saturday through today off), but I was gone from home during daylight hours all four days I was off (excluding when i was sleeping in in the morning, but I find sleep to be very important since I don't get enough sleep during the school year).

Anyways, I went downhill skiing all day today which wasn't really training, but it was physical activity. I didn't want to log it because skiing for 4 hours or so (excluding lunch) isn't the same level of training as running or anything else I do since gravity does almost all the work when downhill skiing.
C • Log it anyway... 3
Downhill Skiing 4:00:00 [1]
people told me to log it anyways, so...

Friday Jan 18

Running 1:33:00 [3] 10.0 mi (9:18 / mi)
shoes: Asics
I haven't run much the past week because it was the end of the semester, so I've been really busy with schoolwork. I also haven't gotten that much sleep, so I was going to go on just a 3 mile run. Then Clarkie asked if I wanted to go to Greenlake, and I haven't gone on a run longer than 4-5 miles for a while, so I was very excited by the thought of a 7 mile run. When we got to Greenlake, however, she started going around the lake in addition to there and back, so I ended up going on a ten mile run. My legs were a little sore since I haven't run that far since the half marathon, but it was really fun. It's encouraging to know that even when I'm not in as good of shape as I was at the end of cross-country season I can still randomly go run ten miles at a reasonable pace (the time includes stop lights, and we seemed to hit almost every one red).
C • Wow... 2

Monday Jan 14

Running 20:51 [3] 2.5 mi (8:20 / mi)
shoes: Asics
I ran to North Acres and did two loops there with Holly, Max, and Drew. It was wet and cold, but fun.
Abs 5:00 [3]
abbreviated nifty-nines

Sunday Jan 13

Running Games (Capture the Flag) 2:00:00 [3]
Capture the flag at the Breseman's house. It was really fun, and I got lots of practice cutting through green.

Friday Jan 11

rock climbing 2:00:00 [3]
I feel like I'm improving. 5.9s are definitely climbable again. And Mr. Searl taught us how to use the cracks when climbing although I'm really bad at that right now. My hands are really sore, but I didn't climb enough for my arms to be get too tired.

Thursday Jan 10

Running 26:00 [3] 3.0 mi (8:39 / mi)
shoes: Asics
I ran around Haller Lake with William. I forgot to start my watch after I stopped it at the stoplight, so the time is approximate.
Running 3:55 [3] 0.5 mi (7:49 / mi)
shoes: Asics
I ran 2 laps around the track since William (and I) wanted to run more and Max hadn't cooled down after running sprints.
Strength 15:00 [3]
nifty-nines (20 crunches, 10 on each side for everything else, no jelly-rolls)
planks (1:00, 0:30, 0:30, 0:30, 0:30 - front, side, back, side, front)
wall sits (3 x 1:00)
C • haha, I would've loved this... 3

Tuesday Jan 8

Orienteering 47:45 [3] 3.4 km (14:03 / km) +140m 11:39 / km
shoes: Asics
Four of us went to Shoreview Park to practice orienteering after school. Holly and I ended up running the high school girls WIOL course from January 2005. It was a pretty fun course, and it was nice to orienteer somewhere I hadn't been for a while. Since it was an old map, some of the trails had changed a little, there were lots of blown-down trees, and this one bridge on the map didn't exist, but it all worked out.

Holly and I alternated leading legs, and we ended up running the course about 6 minutes slower than I ran it freshman year, but that includes stopping to talk about route choices and stopping to make sure we were at the right spot because the map had changed a little and of course there weren't any actual controls. And we had an amazing time fighting through the salal on the second to last control. We got to cut through a little green before that which was pretty fun, except I didn't have my spikes so the shoes I was wearing had horrible traction and I kept slipping. It was good practice.
C • old map 2

Monday Jan 7

Running 25:07 [3] 3.0 mi (8:22 / mi)
shoes: Asics
I ran around Haller Lake with Holly, Max, and William.
Strength 15:00 [3]
nifty-nines minus the jelly-rolls (crunches)
planks
push-ups

Saturday Jan 5

Orienteering 27:20 [3] 3.7 km (7:23 / km) +80m 6:40 / km
This was the 5th WIOL meet; it was at Bridle Trails State Park. It was a really nice park, open and big, but we sadly weren't allowed to go off the trails, so it was pretty much just a trail run. I had a pretty clean run. I did have to go a little slower at the beginning to make sure I didn't make mistakes in all the small trails, and I was surprised by the 1:10,000 map, but I didn't really have any navigational errors.

Thursday Jan 3

rock climbing 2:15:00 [3]
I climbed mostly 5.8s and 5.9s with one 5.7 as a fun and easy cool down at the end. I'm slowly getting back to the level I was at before. I did a couple overhangs near the beginning, so my arms got tired quickly. My hands got pretty sore too. Since I was just climbing with one friend instead of climbing club, we were able to do more climbs in 2 hours than the last time I was climbing. I should work on arm strength in addition to just running.

Wednesday Jan 2

Running 36:19 [3] 4.54 mi (7:59 / mi)
shoes: Asics
I was tired of running to Discovery Park, so I ran in the opposite direction and just did a few loops in Magnolia. I ran from my house along the Boulevard to the little bridge, up the big hill, back to the continuation of the Boulevard which goes to the Magnolia bridge, past Magnolia Park back to the little bridge, into the village, all the way past the soccer fields, back to the little bridge, and then i repeated the first loop again and went home. I know this description isn't going to make sense to anyone but myself.

I had my GPS watch that my parents gave me for the holidays, so hopefully it's accurate (later this week I'm going to test it on a run I know the exact distance of). It was really exciting to know how far i went when I was just randomly running for a while.
C • GPS watch 2
