Monday Mar 31

Running 18:40 [3] 2.7 mi (6:55 / mi)
slept:6.5 shoes: Asics 2
800 m warm-up
form drills + striders
800 m warm-up with 4 striders
2 x 1200 (4:47 and 4:50)
at this point there was lightning and hail so we went inside and practice ended up being canceled though we cross-trained for a little while. I'm getting better, but I still started wheezing during the second 1200.
Elliptical/other cross training 21:00 [3]
Stationary bike while it was hailing out.
Strength 5:25 [3]
Planks - 1:05 per side.

Running Games (Capture the Flag) 1:30:00 [2]
slept:10.0 shoes: Asics
Playing Capture the Flag with lots of people. It was really fun. And I got nice practice crawling through blackberries and other plants, until I finally found a way out of the green and then got chased by Max until he tagged me since I still can't quite run at full speed yet (well, I probably would have gotten tagged anyway). I was stuck in jail for a while, but then I had to leave for soccer. This time doesn't include the wandering around for 40 minutes deciding where to hide our flag and put our jail. And supposedly my team lost both games though I was only there for the first. Did anyone on the other team switch over when I left or did the other team have 2 more players the entire game?
soccer 1:00:00 [3]
shoes: cleats
The first spring soccer game! It was so fun since I hadn't played soccer for a while and I hadn't seen some of my teammates for a while either. We were playing half field, six a side which meant less running, which was good, although I still got short of breath really easily. And some of our passes were a little off, but we still were still playing decently and we won 3-0 (I think). But it's spring soccer, so no one cares about the score.

Strength 8:00 [3]
slept:8.0
planks: front-side-front-side-front 1:00 each
wall-sits: 3 x 1:00

This makes up for not doing abs/planks/other strength stuff yesterday since practice was canceled. I did my envi sci reading to distract myself during these.
C • Wow, I'm impressed :-). Per... 1

Friday Mar 28

Note
slept:8.5
Track practice was cancelled today because IT WAS SNOWING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Which is really weird for Seattle in the end of March, but still exciting. So, I spent the time meandering through rummage instead, though I didn't buy anything. Maybe I'll get something tomorrow.

Thursday Mar 27

Note
slept:7.5
I was planning on running in the meet today, but I saw my coach this morning at school, he asked how I was doing, I said about the same as before, and he suggested going home and sleeping instead of going to the meet. I was kind of hesitant to do that since I missed track all of last week, so I called my dad (a doctor) and talked with him, and he made a couple good points. One, if I'm in a race, I'm going to have a hard time not going all out (especially in a relay) since that's the way I am, and two, since we don't know exactly what I have or why I'm having problems with coughing and breathing while running, I really shouldn't be pushing it and racing. So, I ended up coming home after school instead of going to the meet since I have a lot of homework and I was feeling pretty tired today, so I figured that would be smarter than going and standing out in the cold for 4 hours cheering for people.
C • Good for you! 9

Wednesday Mar 26

Running (track) 4:30 [3] 0.59 mi (7:37 / mi)
slept:8.5 shoes: Asics 2
stop-sign and back x 2 (logged separately)
2 x 150 (first one at 26 sec - the pace for a 2:20 800, the second was at 28 sec)
650 m cool-down

During the second 150, i actually just couldn't really breathe at the end, and i stopped and my breathing was so shallow; i just couldn't take deep breaths. This is really annoying me because I'm feeling fine in everything except running when I just feel really congested (well, that's true the rest of the time as well, it just doesn't bother me) and can't breathe well (and it doesn't help that my left ear still feels like it's plugged so I can't really hear out of it). And of course I'm still coughing a lot any time I stop running. So, I'm signed up for the mile tomorrow (and the 4x400 of course), but I don't think I can actually race either one all out. I don't know what I'm going to do.
Running (distance) 17:20 [3] 2.0 mi (8:39 / mi)
shoes: Asics 2
Running down to the stop sign at 155th and back twice. I was more out of breath than I should have been (especially on the up-hills), but it wasn't that bad.
Strength 5:25 [3]
Planks. While I was out sick, they worked their way up from 40-45 seconds per side to 1:05 for each of the 5 parts (front or sides).

Tuesday Mar 25

Running (distance) 41:00 [3] 4.2 mi (9:45 / mi)
slept:9.0 shoes: Asics 2
The distance team skipped part of the warm-up and started our workout by running to Shoreline Community College and back. I was breathing more heavily than I should have been since it was a nice easy run, and I started coughing any time we stopped (lights), but it was all right. I skipped the track stuff afterwards because I just can't run fast right now without having trouble breathing. This is so frustrating to not be able to do the entire workouts, but there's no point in doing the speed stuff if I can't run fast, so it's more beneficial to get home early and get to sleep earlier. (Time includes the lights.)
Running (warm-up) 1:55 [3] 0.25 mi (7:40 / mi)
shoes: Asics 2
warm-up lap

Monday Mar 24

Running 28:30 [3] 3.7 mi (7:41 / mi)
slept:8.0 shoes: Asics 2
Since I'm feeling better, I decided I'd go to track (against my friends' good advice) since I hadn't run in a week and I was wondering how well I'd be able too. So I did almost 1/2 the workout slowly and my body was still so tired and i was having a hard time breathing for part of it, but I'm still really glad I got out running since I miss not running for over a week. And I got several miles in, so I'm happy. I'm thinking the meet this week just isn't going to go well.

1400 m warm-up
form drills + striders
800 m warm-up including 4 striders
3 x 1200 (the first two were at 5:22 and the third one was at 5:37 since I was getting really out of breath. It's kind of depressing to run 1200 m slower in total time than my PR mile and still get tired.)

i was back to school today, although i still missed track (i hung out while people were stretching at the beginning). and i did run a couple hundred feet slowly as i was trying out new shoes. i have new shoes now, which is good since i had run a lot of miles in my old ones.

Thursday Mar 20

Note
slept:10.0
My day: sitting in bed attempting to do homework and study and in reality alternating between email, facebook, and attackpoint.

Wednesday Mar 19

Note
slept:10.0
I thought I was getting better, but my fever was up a lot last night and this morning, so I stayed home. Most the day was spent attempting to catch up on homework but instead sleeping, which is probably a good thing. I'm way behind on all the trainings, but I figured I'd rather do the most recent one than study for my envi sci test tomorrow, so I just did that.

rock climbing 1:30:00 [3]
slept:9.0
I probably shouldn't have, but I went climbing with the climbing club today because we hadn't gone for so long! I wasn't as out of climbing shape as I expected, although I did get really tired after about an hour.

This is really annoying: I'm alternating between feeling better and feeling worse.
C • So, I vote you get better, ... 3

Monday Mar 17

Running 12:00 [3] 1.6 mi (7:30 / mi)
slept:8.0 shoes: Asics
400 m warm-up
form drills + striders
800 m warmup including 4 x striders
1200 m in 5:00
at this point I started coughing a lot (and i was pretty tired) so people told me to go home and sleep. I missed 4 more 1200s with not too much rest and running to North Acres with two hills there.

Sunday Mar 16

Walking 30:00 [1]
slept:10.0
One of my friends is going to France for 2.5 months, so I went over to say bye to her and we walked around Mcgilvra for a while.
Orienteering 30:00 [3]
shoes: Asics
I ran a couple short courses around Discovery Park and then picked up half of the controls that Eric had set for someone's birthday party. The time is an estimate because I fail at stopping and starting my stopwatch. I'm really excited that I've finally gotten to orienteer in Discovery Park since I've run there so often. And most of the white areas were somewhat runnable, so it made route choices a little more interesting. It was a straightforward course, so I worked on reading ahead the entire time. I'm still really tired, but it was nice to get in some orienteering since i missed the Street Scramble yesterday.

Saturday Mar 15

Note
slept:15.0
I missed the street scramble today since I wasn't feeling well (I had a fever last night) and I wanted to save up energy for the dance.
C • Get well soon 1

Friday Mar 14

Orienteering 33:38 [3] 3.4 km (9:54 / km)
slept:7.5 shoes: Asics
Map memory orienteering exercise with Drew, Holly, and Max. We went to Shoreview and ran one of the old WIOL courses (from freshman year) switching off legs and making it a memory-o. I had run that same course as training earlier this year, though, so that made it easier.

I think I'm getting a cold or something since I was a lot more tired and sore than I should have been.
Running Games (Lava Monster!) 15:00 [1]
Playing Lava Monster on the playground at the park after orienteering and before stretching. It was so fun!

Wednesday Mar 12

Running (track) 16:00 [3] 2.5 mi (6:24 / mi)
slept:8.0 shoes: Asics
400 m warm-up
form drills + striders

part of today's workout was to try and keep up with a Lakeside grad who could help us pace a 62 second 400 m. We warmed-up a second time with her. The only problem was that she ran it in about 57-58 seconds, so I supposedly ran it in around 62, but I'm not sure if i trust that time because a) my fastest 400 up till now was about 62 and it's only the third week of practice, b) my coach was timing and he can be overly optimistic as well as bad at timing, and c) my coach stopped yelling out times as we were finishing, though the guys a second or so in front of me heard "60... 61" so maybe it's accurate. It did feel pretty fast.
(1200 m warm-up again, 4 x striders, 400 m at ~62 sec)

long run (logged separately)
2 x broken 500 (the 300s at 60 and 63, and the 200s at 33 and 34)
short cool down (I had to leave early)
C • omg, that's insanely fast! ... 2
Running (distance) 36:00 [3] 4.0 mi (9:00 / mi)
Run around Haller Lake, back, down to the stop sign, and back.

Tuesday Mar 11

Running 25:00 [3] 3.2 mi (7:48 / mi)
slept:7.0 shoes: Asics
After the initial warm-up and form drills, the distance team drove to this field right next to the UW and we did some tempo exercises there. It was nice because it was soft surface (the grass was very uneven though). We jogged around the huge field a few times plus did two repeats of tempo pace across the field, rest 2 minute, same pace back, rest 1 min, same pace across again, rest 30 sec, same pace back (or 10 sec faster the second time). The distance is an estimate.

Monday Mar 10

Running (track) 29:10 [3] 4.2 mi (6:56 / mi)
slept:7.5 shoes: Asics
800 m warmup
form drills + striders
600 m warmup again (including 250 m of striders)
4 x 1200 m (5:10, 5:00, 4:55, 5:00 - we were supposed to decrease by five seconds each time, but some of the people leading each time weren't that great at pacing)
North Acres (logged separately)

very short cool down

I'm probably not going to have time to do much today since I spent a while at the NWFF meeting and I have a ton of homework. This week I'll hopefully get more sleep than last week, at least, because my math project is over.

Thursday Mar 6

Elliptical/other cross training 45:00 [3]
slept:7.5
Since so many people on the distance team were hurt, after form drills we all went in to the aerobic room to cross train. Since there weren't enough machines for everyone, we alternated 15 minutes on each machine. I did Stairmaster, elliptical, and the stationary bike. I'm really glad we did this because I'm getting worried about my shins, though they're currently fine.
C • DON'T GET SHIN SPLINTS. RAWR. 5
Strength 15:00 [3]
This was the other part of the rotation. We did planks, wall-sits, and push-ups.

Running (distance) 18:00 [3] 2.0 mi (9:00 / mi)

planks.

I iced after practice.

Tuesday Mar 4

Running (distance) 1:08:00 [3] 7.1 mi (9:34 / mi)
shoes: Asics
The workout today: run to Greenlake and back (we added a short loop so we could run along the lake for a minute or so). :-)
It was so nice to go for a long slow run (without many track components to the workout). I was very happy when my coach emailed us the workout. And it was a really nice day.
Running (track) 10:00 [3] 1.0 mi (10:00 / mi)
slept:7.5 shoes: Asics

short cool-down
learning how to start out of blocks (yay! I finally know how I'm supposed to do it, but I need a lot more practice)
Strength 3:00 [3]
sit-ups with medicine ball.
i missed most of this since I was doing starts (and the other distance people had no interest since we don't actually need to know how to start out of blocks, i was just interested to learn).

I also iced after practice.
C • Blocks are so much fun... 11

Sunday Mar 2

Biking 29:30 [3]
slept:10.5
I biked to Discovery Park and around a couple small loops there with my dad. It was a nice day, I wanted some kind of low-impact exercise, and I needed a break from my math project.
