rock climbing 4:00:00 [1]
slept:7.0
Rock climbing trip to Leavenworth with the school climbing club. It was amazing! The time is an estimate though; I have no idea long long we were climbing for. And since the ropes easily got stuck on the rock, even belaying was a workout for the arms. The climbing itself, however, required less strength than in a gym and more technique since there were lots of cracks and techniques like smearing needed to be used a lot.

I'm (almost) done with work in high school meaning I should have more time to sleep, go orienteering, and do whatever for the next couple of weeks.

Running 45:37 [3] 5.0 mi (9:07 / mi)
slept:6.0 shoes: Asics 2
Running to Hamlin with Holly, Natalie, Max, and Drew. It was so nice to go on a long run with friends again!

Saturday May 24

Running (track race) 1:01 [5] 0.25 mi (4:04 / mi)
slept:8.0
We got 5th in state!!!! We all ran about 61 second splits, which is a PR for me, so I'm really happy. It's 1-2 seconds slow for a couple girls on the team, so maybe we could have gone faster if we all would have had good runs on the same day, but we PRed with 4:05.89 and we're all really happy with it. I'm so glad I finally got a chance to run at state, and it was an amazing weekend.
C • Congrats! 6
Running (warm-up/cool down) 15:00 [3]
short warm-up since it was so hot out. we were really lucky we ran late last night so we didn't have to worry about the heat then.
Note
Since track is finally over (I can't believe I'm done with Lakeside sports), I'm trying to find some time to take a couple weeks off, but with wanting to run with friends the last couple weeks of school and needing to stay in shape for JWOC, I'm not exactly sure when that's going to happen.

Friday May 23

Running (track race) 1:02 [5] 0.25 mi (4:07 / mi)
slept:10.0
We got second in our heat at state prelims!!!! I was second leg, and as I came around the curve, I was expecting there to be more people right with me like in the 800, but there were only a couple people, so i cut in too abruptly. I also couldn't see Whitney as I was running along the last stretch for a while, and i had a bad hand-off with her, so we probably lost a second or so there. we were running at 9 pm at night, so the stadium was lit up by the lights only. It was a cool experience. The team ran it in 4:06 something, which was a PR. We were so excited to qualify for finals.
Running 30:00 [3]

Thursday May 22

Running (track) 2:00 [3] 0.25 mi (8:01 / mi)
slept:8.5 shoes: Asics
The track closed at 7:00, though we thought it was at 7:30, so we arrived there at 6:55 (after driving over from Seattle) and only had time to run one lap in lane 8, with practicing cutting in for me, to see what the track is like. It's a 10 lane track, and the entire thing is in a huge pit so there's less wind. It has longer curves than some tracks (especially Lakeside's which is pretty narrow) and it's a pretty nice track.

Wednesday May 21

Running (track) 11:00 [3] 1.5 mi (7:19 / mi)
slept:9.0 shoes: Asics 2
800 m warm-up

hand-off practice
2 x 200
2 x 100 (all really fast)
800 m cool-down

Tuesday May 20

Running 4:52 [3] 1.0 mi (4:51 / mi)
slept:9.0
400 m warm-up
form drills + 1 strider
Broken 400 (300 in 0:48)
(Asha got to practice really late, so we started doing Ted's workout - practically a repeat of yesterday - and then Asha finally arrived so we were able to do what she and Sally had planned.)
3 x 150 thinking about the back straightaway and first part of the second curve
3 x 100 m all out
(iced)

Monday May 19

Running (track) 10:30 [3] 1.9 mi (5:31 / mi)
slept:7.5 shoes: Asics 2
800 m warm-up
form drills
Broken 400 (with jogging inbetween the parts - 300 in ~50 seconds)
2 x 200 (the first in 0:29, the second in about the same with 1 minute rest in between)
3 x 150 (fast, walking/jogging the rest of the lap in between each)
800 m cool-down
(iced)
Note
The relay for this Friday is going to be the same four people, but I'm running second since I'm used to cutting in after 100 m and Zoe's running first since she knows how to start out of blocks. And Whitney's still 3rd and Lara's still fourth.
Orienteering 7:31 [3]
shoes: Asics 2
Drew's O' course at Lakeside for our May Day festival. It was fun and the controls were somewhat hidden which was nice because unlike the other courses we've had at Lakeside, you actually had to know where you were instead of just seeing the controls from really far away. Unfortunately, I wasn't fast enough to beat Drew (he had prior knowledge of where all the controls were since he set them).

Sunday May 18

Running (distance) 20:15 [3] 2.0 mi (10:06 / mi)
slept:10.5 shoes: Asics
I ran starting at the hotel, and then turning every time the street I was on wasn't as shady as one I could see. It was really hot! Distance is a complete guess; I just know I wasn't going very fast.

Running (track race) 2:22 [5] 0.5 mi (4:43 / mi)

District finals for the 800 m. According the loudspeaker, I ran it in the exact same time as prelims (2:22.96) but as of the end of the meet, they still didn't have the results printed. And it was sooooo hot running today. I ran the first lap in 66-67 seconds, and I'm not sure if it was because it was so hot, because I drank so much water today, or for some other reason, but I just felt kind of sluggish even though my time was the same as before. I came in 8th.
Running (track race) 1:03 [5] 0.25 mi (4:12 / mi)
1st leg of the 4x400. I ran it in around 63. My team came in 4th, so WE QUALIFIED FOR STATE!!! The is the first time I ever will have gone to state before. So, as much as I don't want to have track practice next week or be gone Thursday night/Friday/Saturday, I'm excited to go to Pasco. I've wanted to be on a 4x400 team at state ever since I was an alternate for the state-winning team freshman year (and I stayed at school to take finals instead of going with them). I'm also excited to run a 400 without having just run the 800.

rock climbing 1:30:00 [3]
slept:7.5
Climbing with the climbing club to get ready for our outdoor trip in two and a half weeks. I just realized I probably skipped my last track practice ever. But we wouldn't have done much, and I needed to get in some practice climbing.

Wednesday May 14

Running (track race) 2:22 [5] 0.5 mi (4:43 / mi)
slept:9.5
District prelims for the 800. I ran it in 2:22.96, and I qualified for district finals! I was 5th in my heat and 8th overall, and I qualified by 2/100 of a second (the top three from each heat plus the next two fastest times qualify). I wasn't expecting to qualify (I didn't even really want to), but I've never run individually in district finals before, so this is exciting. My first lap was about 70 seconds, so it was pretty even pacing.
C • Woo! 2
Running (track race) 1:02 [5] 0.25 mi (4:07 / mi)
I was the first leg of the 4x400 and I ran it in about 62 seconds. My team qualified for finals, so I'll be running two races again on Friday. I'm really glad I scratched the mile.

slept:8.0 shoes: Asics
Personal best loop at the Bresemans. I was following Anna. I also set some controls and picked up some other ones at the NWFF practice meet, but I decided not to run the course since I already knew where most of the controls were, and I was going to be running later.
Running (track) 11:45 [3] 1.97 mi (5:57 / mi)
shoes: Asics 2
550 m warm up
3 x Broken 500, rest 1 minute, run 200 (300s in 0:56, 0:54, 0:55; 200s in 0:34, 0:34, 0:35, 0:35, 0:36, 0:35)

Mile race at Metros! I got an 8 second PR with 5:24.64 (I think the hundredths are correct). I was 6th so I qualified for districts (though I'm scratching this so I'll be able to better run the 800 and 4x400). As of about 150 m left, I was about 3 places out of qualifying (top 7 qualify), so I passed several people at the end. The top runners started slowly because I think they were trying to play weird mind games, and I got boxed in at the beginning, but it turned out well with about an 80 second first lap which is what I was hoping for. I ran pretty even splits for the rest of the race as well. I'm really happy with this race, especially since I've never before qualified for districts in the mile.
Running (track race) 2:24 [5] 0.5 mi (4:48 / mi)
800 m metro finals. I was 7th, so I qualified, and my time was slightly slower than Wednesday, but I raced only about an hour after the mile so I was still tired from that. I'm going to race this again next Wednesday, and hopefully get another PR, but I'm happy with my improvement in the 800 this season.
Running (track race) 1:04 [5] 0.25 mi (4:15 / mi)
I was the third leg of the 4x400. My legs were exhausted by this point.
Running 50:00 [3]
warming up and cooling down x 3
Note
And Lakeside girls are the 2008 METRO LEAGUE CHAMPS! I knew we got a bunch of points from distance, hurdles, and a few field events, but I had no idea we were going to win the team title. This never happens with Lakeside track since we always have such a small team. I'm so happy!!!!! This is such a great way to end my track career!

Running (track race) 2:23 [5] 0.5 mi (4:46 / mi)

800 m metro prelims. I ran it in 2:23.4, which was amazing because it's a PR by about 3 seconds. I was 3rd in my heat and 5th overall, so I qualified for finals on Friday. My first lap was 66-67, and I was so tired for the entire second lap, but there was someone who tried to pass me, though I was able to pass her again at the end, and that kept me motivated. It's races like this that make me glad I do track. My goal for this season was to get a PR in both the 800 and mile and I'm halfway to that, so I'm happy. :-)

1 x run curves, jog straights
1200 m cool-down

Note
slept:8.5
I'm scratched from the 400 because my coaches (well, Asha and Sally) thought that would be better since it's so close to the 800, though I kind of wish I could run a 400 with competition (last meet, I was in a heat only with one other really slow girl). And the 800 is at 6:25 tomorrow. On Friday, the mile is at 4:30, the 800 (if I qualify for finals) is at 5:25, and the 4x400 is at 6:20. That'll be tiring if I qualify for the 800 so I have to run all three.

4 v 4 on a small field. we were playing a select team so they were better than some of the rec teams we've played although they also were pushy and way too into the competitive aspect (arguing with the ref and playing with off-sides) for a spring game. it was still fun, though kind of hot and my legs were a little sore from yesterday.

Saturday May 3

Orienteering 55:59 [3] 6.3 km (8:53 / km)
slept:9.0 shoes: Orienteering shoes
Score O at Priest Point. I got 975 points. I could have gotten about 100 more points near the end if I wouldn't have been so worried about getting back on time (there was a 1 hour limit). It was really fun since several of the controls were in the middle of green areas, so they were more technical. They were good practice, although I did manage to run through a bunch of stinging nettles. I was kind of slow on the first couple controls, and besides that my main error was not cutting across the tidal beach area after leaving point 124 because on the map it looked like it would be really marshy, though other people cut through and said it was fine. I also could have gone to a few extra points at the end. The distance was attained by attempting to follow my route with a ruler so it's approximate.

Note
Metro standings:
I'm 19th in the 400 with 1:04.1 (not my best time), so I probably won't get to run that.
I'm 12th in the 800 with 2:27.90.
I'm 8th in the mile with 5:34.70.
(The top 16 in each event qualify, and I'll find out if anyone drops after the coaches meeting on Monday.) These are better times going into Metros than I've had before.

Thursday May 1

Running 1:03 [5] 0.25 mi (4:12 / mi)
slept:6.0
I ran the open 400 today in about 63.8 seconds (unofficial time). I was happy with that since I haven't run the 400 individually in a long time. It might even be enough to qualify for metros in which case I'd need to decide what to run. It might not be though, which is fine since I'm already qualified in the 800 and mile unless about 8 girls in each event ran faster today at the various meets than my time.
Running (track race) 1:06 [5] 0.25 mi (4:23 / mi)
I ran the first leg of the 4x400. I was really tired by this point because of lack of sleep and having run around a lot already (400 m race, high jump, warm-up, etc.).
C • Soooo... 2
Running 40:00 [3]
warm-up, cool-down, and high jump

I was so excited to do the high jump today even though I wasn't able to make it over the opening height of 4'2". I haven't practiced this at all during high school, and I was at least able to make it over a couple of the lower practice heights, so I felt good about that. And most of all it was fun, and it helped make the meet today a really enjoyable last season meet. Running the 400 m, the way it was warm and sunny, and having a bunch of my friends come to watch also made the meet a lot better.
