WIOL champs.

The forest part was kind of fun since there was one really interesting control. Sadly I messed up on that one (probably losing a couple of minutes) because I didn't look at my control description and it looked like a reantrant on the map so I charged down this reantrant in the dark green only to realize after a minute or so that I was supposed to be on a spur. My only other navigational mistake was when I went to 12 instead of 11 (they were less than 150 meters apart) because I accidentally started looking at the wrong spot on the map. Besides that it was a pretty clean run.

And it was a really fun meet because I got to hang out with lots of the same people as at Interscholastics.

Walking 25:00 [1]
Walk around the Claremont colleges.

Running 29:21 [3] 3.76 mi (7:48 / mi)
shoes: Asics
I ran from my hotel room a couple miles up the road and then back. I ran my normal training pace for 5 minutes, then sped up for 2 minutes and repeated that. It wasn't the nicest run since I was running along a busy street with several stop lights since I don't know the area at all.

Running 32:11 [3] 3.5 mi (9:12 / mi)
shoes: Asics
I ran a loop around the Claremont Colleges and surrounding area. The distance is a guess since I left my GPS watch at the hotel.
Walking 53:04 [1] 2.5 mi (21:12 / mi)
I walked from my brother's dorm to Jamba Juice and back.

I've done a lot of other walking the last couple of days. I spent about 8 hours walking around Disneyland yesterday (which is why I didn't go running), so my feet were getting kind of sore by the end of the walk today.
Strength 12:45 [3]

Day 2 at Interscholastics. Today was so much better than yesterday although I still made a few couple minute errors. My main problems were controls 7 and 10. For 7, if I would have just looked to my left, I would have seen my control, but instead I headed to the other side of the earth bank my control was on, which was down the hill. I then had to loop around, so I lost a couple minutes here. At 10, I went to far along the uncrossable earth bank and came across a control farther along. I then saw the building/dock down by the lake and realized I was a little too far south. I lost a couple minutes here as well. Besides that, most the controls were pretty good, although a lost 30 seconds to a minute on a couple others since I ended up slightly to the side of where I was supposed to be, although I figured it out almost immediately. I liked this course better than yesterday because it had less buildings and I was able to rely on contours more. I also used what I had learned about the terrain yesterday as well as making sure to slow down on the first few controls. I also tried very hard to think of today as a new race and not worry about the time I needed to make up to try and medal, and I was pretty successful with this. I was happy with today's run, and although I'm still disappointed with yesterday's huge error, it was a good meet, I had a lot of fun, I got in some practice, and my team did well.
C • Nice Run! 2
