slept:10.0 shoes: Crusty Merida

Rode out to the Mt Eliza / Humphries Rd top shops. Did 2 x Mountain Ave, 2 x Humphries Rd, 1 x Two Bays Rd (ran out of time for 2). Battled home against a furocious head wind.

Run 4:22:00 [3] 33.0 km (7:56 / km) +3710m 5:05 / km
slept:8.0 shoes: Brooks Adrenalin ASR #2

Drove Eastlink to Josh's and back, very nice and easy. Too many Sunday driver's checking it out on the way back though.

Run in the Dandenongs with Josh. Up Hansen then the singletrack up to One Tree Hill, down and across the paddock to Sherbrook Forest, down the middle to the pub at Belgrave, up to Grant's Picnic area to the bottom of the Sassafrass Creek Trail, ran the long slog up to Sassafrass, then the road to Wal's place for a 15 minute chat. Up to Olinda for a jam donut, down Channel 10 and Cammilea Tracks to the bottom of the Scar, straight up, then back down Channel 10 Track and the dirt road to the gates at Doongalla, then back to Josh's. Plenty of climbing, but the legs felt good. We may have recruited Wal for next Sunday's run. We'll see ...

slept:10.0 shoes: Nike Zoom Elite

Ran the Kananook Creek Trail to Frankston, then the foreshore track to the Carrum Bowling Club, then did it reverse back home. Negative split by 15 seconds. Now my legs hurt.

Ride 3:21:30 [3] 55.0 km (3:40 / km) +1010m 3:21 / km
slept:8.5 shoes: Giant XTC Team

Rode to Frankston and met Rob Davis, my 'Mt Eliza Ranges Tour Guide' for the morning. We rode small walking / single tracks plus a bit of road to the top shop at Mt Eliza, then traversed around the top of the quarry before going straight down to the bottom. From here we rode some really nice off road sections and ended up near the top somewhere. Then rode a cool single track section following alongside a creek to Walkers Road, then to Canadian Bay and back to Rob's house. Rode home pretty hard from here. Was a really cool ride which I'm not sure I'd find again - it's taken Rob 10 years to find it all. Was a tough ride as Rob always pushes the pace, kept up okay though.

Ride 2:35:00 [3] 52.0 km (2:59 / km) +950m 2:44 / km
slept:12.0 shoes: Crusty Merida

Rode the back way to Frankston, then up Oliver's Hill and into Mt Eliza via Humphries Road. Found three different hills and did a couple of reps up each. Then rode home via a couple of other hills. Very windy day!!!

Run race (Creswick 6 hour Rogaine) 5:45:00 [4]
slept:6.0 shoes: Salomon XT Wings

Planned to do this rogaine with my brother but he got a bit crook at the last minute so did some eleveth hour recruitment and talked Rob Davis into running with me. We arrived a bit late and only planned about 40% of our course before hand. Scored 1230 points, which was quite competetive but not sure how we went. Ran all that we could and survived well. I also did a fair amount of the nav, and didn't stuff it up .... must have been the 'O' pants! We did arrive back 15 minutes early, having under estimated our pace a little. It was a really good area for a rogaine.

Ride (Wind trainer) 1:30:00 [3]
slept:6.0 shoes: Giant TCR One (road)

Wasted all my time before dark catching up on the day's 'Turas' news. Jumped on the wind trainer in front of the Turas GPS Tracking page, pity about Rob's teams mistake, Orion have done well though.

Ride 1:41:30 [3] 42.0 km (2:25 / km)

Run 2:30:00 [3]
slept:7.0 shoes: Nike Zoom Elite

Early morning run in the Dandenongs with Josh. Did a loop around and up One Tree Hill, then down to Old School Track, across the paddocks, up Deer Hill, a small loop around Doongala, then back to Josh's place via the jam donut shop at the Basin. Don't have distance because I didn't fire up the GPS till halfway. Crisp morning, legs felt okay. Walked the steep uphills.

Ride 1:50:00 [3] 24.0 km (4:35 / km) +1209m 3:40 / km
shoes: Crusty Merida

Straight onto the bikes. Josh rode with Kirra on the back, and Jodie with Jarrah. Rode up to Sky High via Basin Olinda Rd. Pace was quite slow without a kid on the back. Rode Jodie's bike for the last road section up to the top to give her a break. It was a VERY cold descent back down. Don't think the kids were that happy about it either.

Gym (Snake Bite) 20:00 [5]

Ouch, my first experience of a snake bite. It hurts now however I think it will sting more tomorrow morning. Modified it a little and attempted 10 x push up and 10 x sit ups every minute. Mangaged the first 3 minutes, then reduced it to 6 x push ups, 10 x sit ups. Struggled for the last couple of minutes. Total = 132 push ups, 200 sit ups.

Saturday Jun 14, 2008 #

Run 1:15:00 [3] 14.0 km (5:21 / km)
slept:9.0 shoes: Nike Zoom Elite

Kananook Creek Trail to Frankston, then back along the foreshore track. Legs felt good .... the 'extra large supersized double shot venti signature hot chocolate' I downed not long beforehand didn't feel so good.

Adventure Race race (Geoquest 48 hour) 32:58:00 [4]

Raced as team Blackheart.com.au with Damon, Josh and Mounty. Went into this race a little underdone having done few hills. Finished 6th which was a little disappointing, however really enjoyed the event and the course. Highlights:
26km downwind kayak leg with decent ocean swell;
Boogie boarding leg - caught two nice waves in;
Nymboida trek leg, although we did this at night, the river and area in general is awesome (apart from the leeches and spikey vines). Took 8.5hrs, bit longer than necessary but it was worth it!

[Mounty's written a good and far more detailed report on his log]

Tuesday Jun 3, 2008 #

Ride (Wind trainer) 55:00 [3]
slept:11.0 shoes: Giant TCR One (road)

Wind trainer in front of the TV. Gradually built the gears up, then back down for final 10 minutes.

Run 1:18:00 [3] 14.0 km (5:34 / km)
slept:12.0 shoes: Asics Kayano 13

Big sleep in to start the week off then spent all day doing very little. Finally got out for a run just in time to make it back before dark. Ran the Kananook Creek Trail to Frankston, then came back along the foreshore track. Right side IT band appears a bit tight.

Ride race (6 hour Enduro) 6:08:45 [4] 105.0 km (3:31 / km) +3478m 3:01 / km
slept:6.0 shoes: Giant XTC Team

Wasn't happy, woke up and found my bike with a flat rear tyre. I think it was just short of slime. Anyway, Dave was good enough to come with me and fix it while I was registering (I was running very late after pressing the snooze button a couple too many times). The course was good with plenty of passing spots, punished me on the hardtail though. It's races like these that I half wish I had a dually. Lower back stffened up a bit early on. I survived better than I though I would but it still hurt. Did 7 laps and finished 5th in the Women's.

Lap times:
50:50
49:14
50:45
53:31
