Kayak 1:35:00 [3]
slept:7.0 shoes: K1

Afternoon paddle in okay conditions, just a little wind. Started with a cruisy paddle up to the freeway. Once there did 10 x 25 double strokers flat out, with an easy float back as recovery. Did them on around 4 minutes. First 5 into the wind, second 5 with it. Finished off by paddling back to the canals, a loop in there and then home. Felt okay but wasn't finishing the sprints off too well. Hopefully this extra strength will come with a few more structured sessions.

slept:7.0 shoes: K1

Evening paddle with a super high tide, I was surprised when they hadn't closed off the gates to the canals. The tide was only about 4 inches short from flooding. Jumped on the water as the school group of about 7 double boats plus 3 ocean skis came passed. Jumped on the wash of the fastest boat as they did their last 3km effort, gradually getting faster. Was disappointed when I dropped off with about 200m to go, they had their TK2 going that little bit too fast, bit embarrassing that I couldn't hold the wash of a TK2 though! Paddled back to the canal entrance with them then did the normal loop plus a bit extra. Felt really good after I'd recovered from the effort.

Kayak 2:41:00 [3]
slept:11.0 shoes: K1

Did three incomplete laps of Patterson River and canals. Went to the freeway first, did three loops in the canals, then came back out and went up to the freeway and back twice. Stopped about two thirds of the way through to get out for a stretch. Finished off by going to the mouth and back with the intention to catch a wash of one of the many boats coming back in, bad timing, no boats coming back in.

Kayak (Resistence) 1:03:00 [3]
slept:6.0 shoes: K1

Afternoon paddle with the 100+ fishing boats heading out into the bay making the most of the balmy Friday arvo weather. Put an occy on the front of my boat for the first time in over 4 years. The added noise somewhat ruins the serenity! Felt really good, was paddling quite strongly with the resistence and was surprised I got around the normal Patterson River and canals lap in only 3 minutes slower than my quickest time. Either I haven't been putting in lately, or the guns have far more strength in them than anyone gives me credit for .... the latter I'm thinking.

Kayak 1:00:00 [3]
slept:8.0 shoes: K1

Solid lap of Patterson River and canals. Awesome evening for paddling except for the rain but it seemed to keep the wind away. Felt really good. Good to see about 15 other paddlers on the water and another few getting on as I was getting off. The rain obviously hadn't kept them away.

Gym 40:00 [3]

It's my second time to the gym with my 30 day free trial membership, only 5 free days left. Probably won't be paying up. Went today to assist Dave with his strength test ... lucky I was there, he bit off more than he could chew on the bench press, apparently I was a little late with the assist! While I was there I did 5 sets each of assisted chins and dips on the 'Gravitron', some bicep stuff, a few sit ups and a bit of stretching.

Note
slept:8.0 (rest day)

Still waiting for the FedEx man to deliver Microsoft Office 2007. If I leave to do anything he'll arrive and I'll miss him again resulting in a 1 1/2 hour drive to pick it up! Not a productive day.

Run 36:00 [3]
slept:10.0 shoes: Asics Kayano 13

Cruisy and rather slow lap of Patterson River. Stopped twice to stretch out the left ITB - bit tight from yesterday's ride.

Ride (Round The Bay In A Day) 4:01:00 [4] 116.54 km (2:04 / km)
slept:8.0 shoes: Giant TCR One (road)

Was too lazy again to enter Round The Bay In A Day so opted to ride to Sorrento and back. Got on a bunch from home doing about 40km/h to the top of Oliver's Hill where I met Rob D who was riding his MTB with road tyres. Rode with a good bunch to Sorrento, even bumped into two guys who know Dave from Brisbane - small world! Did a bit of hard work on the way down, was feeling good, but was to pay for it on the way back. Most people got on the Ferry at Sorrento so we rode the next 30 kms or so by ourselves into the head wind, and around the back through Mt Martha. The small hills through here punished us both and we bagan to feel the "road cycling burn" through the quaddies. Came good with about 20 kms to go. Dropped Rob off again at Oliver's Hill then jumped on 4 guys sitting on about 35 - 37 km/h back home. Struggled, but it was good to get home!

Kayak 1:12:00 [3]
slept:11.0 shoes: K1

Did the Ocean Grove Golf Club to Lake Connewarre and back loop again. Thought yesterday's time was a bit quick for the conditions and realised today I'd missed the final "J" section. Did the complete loop today and paddled it a bit harder. Felt better than I have in a while. Conditions were awesome too.

Kayak 1:06:00 [3]
slept:9.0 shoes: K1

Afternoon paddle from the Ocean Grove Golf Club, up to Lake Connewarre and back, my old daily loop (also the last section of the Mars Challenge paddle). A reasonably warm day however the wind was up. The first section of the paddle (across an open lake) I was wishing I'd taken my parent's plastic sea kayak as I was taking in a fair amount of water from the side chop. Once I made it into the river section the boat settled down and just had the tide and straight winds to battle ... until I returned back to the lake. The foot pump got a fair work out for the first time in a while. Good paddle.

Kayak 1:01:00 [3]
slept:12.0 shoes: K1

Lap of Patterson River and canals. Felt a bit sluggish for the first section, probably from just waking up after 12 hours of sleep. Good day, can't complain about the weather.

Run 43:00 [3]
slept:5.5 shoes: Asics Kayano 13

Run to Seaford and back on the Kananook Creek Trail. Got to wear the new shoes I picked up cheaply over a month ago. Haven't been running much recently so was happy with how it felt, fortunately I haven't forgotten how to run!

Kayak 1:00:00 [3]
slept:6.5 shoes: K1

I think I'm back now to the training circle for good now, we'll see ... Solid lap of Patterson River and canals. Fastest lap I've ever done in the K1 which is encouraging. I should get under the hour some time soon I would think.

Kayak 1:04:00 [3]
slept:9.5 shoes: K1

Lap of Patterson River and canals. Arms still felt a bit heavy for first half of lap.

Kayak 1:06:00 [3]
slept:10.0 shoes: K1

Light paddle of Patterson River and canals. The forearms were still sore from Saturday, but loosened up by the end. Used my normal small paddle today, didn't feel like I was pulling any water at all for the first few km's. I think I will be retiring the Bracsa IV.

Kayak race (Echuca Mini Marathon) 3:39:00 [4] 50.0 km (4:23 / km)
slept:5.5 shoes: K2 - Prowler

K2 with Dave. First lead up race for the Murray Marathon (Barmah to Echuca, 50km on the Murray) ... struggled from the start, bluffed to the halfway point then went downhill. The 'Braca IV Max' is not a marathon paddle for someone with adventure racing arms, even if I have been to the gym once, enough said.

Kayak 1:02:00 [3]
slept:9.5 shoes: K1

Lap of Patterson Lakes and canals. Felt good. Nearly recovered from gym the other day, only a couple of sore spots left.

Wednesday Oct 3, 2007 #

Kayak (Kayak Ergo) 30:00 [3]
slept:11.0 shoes: K1 Ergo

Solid 30 minutes on the ergo. Could have gone out on the water but left my run too late and would have been late to work, bit windy also. (3.9).

Ride (Tues Night Ride & Pizza) 1:50:00 [3]
slept:7.0 shoes: Giant XTC Team

Took out the good bike again because the other one still has a flat front tyre. Rode from Josh's place with Mark and Josh around the western face of One Tree Hill. Was heading down a longish down hill towards Upper Gully when I heard a loud gushing noise and felt liquid spraying on the back of my legs. Damn it, I had a flat rear tyre. Weird again, as I don't usually have flats. Slime filled the hole, what was left of it and wasn't on my legs so I rode with half pressure down to where Josh and Mark were waiting. On closer examination saw the hole was actually a big gash and that the slime wasn't going to last. We fixed it and finished the ride through the normal Upper Gully loop and back for pizza which had been waiting for 10 minutes. Legs felt good. Upper body VERY sore from yesterday's gym.

Gym 1:25:00 [3]
slept:5.5 shoes: Brooks Adrenalin

No idea what I was thinking walking into a gym (!!!) but I've always found it hard to knock back something free! Did a bit of everything; back, chest and arms. Gym full of bulky guys doing 'Curls For The Girls' and 'Gym For Kim'. Good to see!

.... will see how I pull up tomorrow, probably not that good.

Ride 55:00 [3]
shoes: Brooks Adrenalin

Walked into a spin class because Dave talked me into it, and it was free. Didn't really know how hard it was going to be. The instructor kept saying to go hard so I did and had blown up my the end of the second song. Bluffed my way through the next two songs then came home strong for the final few. The heart rate got higher than it's been since Teva, recovered a bit better this time though.
