Kayak race (Murray Marathon) 5:20:21 [4] 75.0 km (4:16 / km)
slept:6.0 shoes: K2 - Prowler

Another hot day reaching 48 degrees plus, after the same yesterday. Won the 'Outright Fastest' Trophy again with a total time of 29hrs 1min 40secs. This was an hour behind our record set 4 years ago (more water, faster current) and 30 mins quicker than last year (also more water). Also came 4th on the hanicap which is our best result yet. Today's paddle was tough with heaps of turbulence making a very uncomfortable 75kms (from Murrabit to Swan Hill) on already punished backsides. We ended up paddling the day quite well and gained about another 7 minutes on the 2nd outright fastest. Excellent to finish well again and not have to get in the boat again for a while (even though I've only got a couple of blisters, so lack excuses)! Apparently got a guernsey on Channel 9 news, ABC radio, and was live on air on 3AW.

Kayak race (Murray Marathon) 4:42:30 [4] 63.0 km (4:29 / km)
slept:7.5 shoes: K2 - Prowler

Gluteus maximus really slowed me down today, ouch. Relatively short day from Echuca to Torrumburry, I have't paddled this day well in the past, and today was no exception. Couldn't eat this morning, got heaps of fluids down though so wasn't too concerned. Started well, then the butt pain kicked in. Energy levels were good but wasn't comfortable. Dave paddled well and we got to the finish only a couple of minutes ahead of second. One day to go, phew!

Kayak race (Murray Marathon) 5:33:38 [4] 78.0 km (4:17 / km)
slept:7.5 shoes: K2 - Prowler

Picnic Point to Echuca. Glad to have made it through 'Hump Day'. Bit flat today but still gained over 10 minutes for the overall lead. We were in survival mode but managed to keep tapping along at an okay pace. The first 10 kms was flash though, clocking 40mins 30secs on the GPS. Fast but so was the flow. Butt much sorer today after battling plenty of eddies for the first 20kms. It won't recover in 2 days either I bet!

Kayak race (Murray Marathon) 6:49:31 [4] 96.0 km (4:16 / km)
slept:8.0 shoes: K2 - Prowler

Day 2, Tocumwal to Picnic Point. Cleaned up fastest time again today and avoided all snags which was a relief. Felt good for entire distance bar about the final 10km even though we finished 10 minutes ahead of schedule. Left heel and butt hurting. Trying to keep out of the heat now and recover as much as we can. Struggling to get food down though.

Kayak race (Murray Marathon) 6:35:40 [4] 92.0 km (4:18 / km)
slept:7.5 shoes: K2 - Prowler

Day 1 of Murray Marathon in K2 with Fast Dave. 1 down, 4 to go. Today started from Yarrawonga and finished at Tocumwal. Current was slower than last year, and very sluggish in parts particularly towards the end. We survived quite well but have a big day tomorrow. We were fastest full distance boat on the water today by 18 minutes so can hopefully stay there for the rest of the week??? Butt held up well. Long day tomorrow though.

Kayak 2:05:30 [3] 24.2 km (5:11 / km)
slept:8.0 shoes: K2 - Prowler

Morning paddle in the K2 with Dave. Joined 3 other guys in K1s for a few laps. Wind had finally settled after three days, heaps and heaps of water coming over the breakwater at the Freeway though. May have been the reason the flood gates into the canals were half closed. Paddled into the canals and did wash leads for three laps inside. Had the other guys all covered. Stayed in the canals as there was still a fair bit of swell coming through the mouth of the river from the bay. Did a warm down paddle up to the Freeway and back when we saw Rob Davis paddling his brand new Epic V10 ski for the first time. Impressive looking boat.

Kayak 58:30 [3]
shoes: K1

Christmas Lights paddle with Dave, Nat, Derek and Rob. Cruised into the canals and admired the lights. Plenty of power boats out tonight having a look also. Had some Fish 'n' Chips for dinner before we went out, maybe a few too many chips as Dave and I broke the couch we were sitting on with the weight of our excess beach muscle!

Run 36:00 [3]
slept:6.0

Ran a lap of Patterson River, had to stay high after a bit of flooding after a monsoon like downpour at about 4pm. Made the bike tracks nice and soft to run on anyway. Felt a bit average which was to be expected.

Kayak (Resistence) 1:16:00 [3]
slept:10.0 shoes: K1

Put the tennis ball on and did a steady lap. Included a serious effort when a decent boat wash came along. Was tough to stay there with the tennis ball which also seemed to affect the steering. Did a bridge to bridge sprint on the way back too.

Kayak (Social) 1:20:00 [2]
slept:9.0 shoes: K1

Christmas Lights paddle with a bunch of mainly non-paddlers. Christmas lights were impressive, however I think last year's efforts were slightly better. Did a bridge sprint against Jarad (on an Endorphin) and smashed him! Did a bit extra towards the end to locate a stray couple who'd missed a turn ... very difficult to find anyone on the water at 10pm with a new moon!

Kayak 1:29:00 [3]
slept:10.0 shoes: K1

Steady paddle up to the Freeway then two laps inside the canals. Started off well, but tired a bit later on. I'm putting it down to not eating before hand.

Kayak 1:19:00 [3]
slept:12.0 shoes: K1

Had an awesome 12 hour nap last night so am finally feeling a bit better. Did the normal lap plus an extra bit to the Freeway and back. Included 5 x extended race pace efforts all around the 800m mark. Also did 5 x 20 double strokers. Good morning on the water.

Tuesday Dec 11, 2007 #

Kayak (Resistence) 1:14:00 [3]
slept:7.0 shoes: K1

Put the tennis ball on and did a steady lap with a few efforts every now and then. The wind was very strong which made the efforts into the wind tough and quite slow. Felt not too bad. Took the tennis ball off with about 1km to go and felt awesome.

Kayak 1:01:00 [3]
shoes: K1

Did the normal lap steady. Had a 4am start Sunday and a 5am start this morning. Was tired on the water and didn't really want to be there.

Kayak (Fartlek) 1:18:00 [3]
slept:6.0 shoes: K1

Hot afternoon on the water. Did a lap of Patterson River and canals, and then up to the Freeway and back again. Mixed the efforts up varying between 20 double strokers (flat out) to approx. 1000m (race pace). Felt good apart from a few blisters on my right hand left over from Saturday.

Kayak race (40 Miler Kayak Race) 4:41:20 [4] 66.0 km (4:16 / km)
slept:4.0 shoes: K2 - Prowler

66km kayak race on the Murray River from Yarrawonga to Cobram. Good lead up race for the Murray Marathon in 4 weeks. Paddled the first 25km pretty hard to hold off two other K2s that had started with us and were only doing the first leg (soft). Paddled the rest at a fairly good steady pace and missed out on line honours by less than 5 minutes, spewing. Felt really good paddling wise, however all three contact points (hands, heels and butt) didn't fair quite so well. More conditioning required.
