Ride 1:30:30 [3] 35.0 km (2:35 / km)
slept:8.0 shoes: Crusty Merida

In Bendigo for the week so went for an afternoon ride. Headed south on the highway, then east on the O'Keefe rail trail until the 45 minute mark then turned around and came back via Lake Weeroona to check it out. It was soooooooo hot (just checked the BOM and was riding at the hottest time - 41.9). Had to slow down to prevent over-cooking.

Kayak 1:00:30 [3] 10.2 km (5:56 / km)
slept:8.0 shoes: K1 - Nelo Scorpion

Morning lap of Patterson River and canals before it's too hot.

Run 40:00 [3] 7.2 km (5:33 / km)
slept:11.0 shoes: Nike Zoom Elite

Slept in so missed the morning paddle. Instead went for a run a little later to Seaford and back on the Kananook Creek Trail. Took it slightly carefully for my ankle as bits were a little uneven.

Ride (D.I.S. Training Day) 2:42:00 [3] 39.0 km (4:09 / km) +1801m 3:22 / km
slept:4.5 shoes: Giant XTC Team

Up before 9am after watching a few of the guys drink way too much at Rob's 30th ;ast night. Rob faired the worst, ha ha. Rode out on a rail trail to Mirboo North for morning tea with 10 others, then back via plenty of single track and fire roads. I was very impresssed with the trails here at the DIS, they were heaps of fun.

Run 31:50 [3] 5.9 km (5:24 / km)
slept:6.0 shoes: Nike Zoom Elite

Had to work today so went for a quick run afterwards. Ran a little harder for the final couple of kilometres. Felt good and the ankle is not getting any worse.

Run 33:00 [3] 5.9 km (5:36 / km)
slept:8.0 shoes: Nike Zoom Elite

Decided not to do anything today, then got bored so went out for a quick arvo lap of Patterson River. Still quite warm with a hot sun. Felt easy.

Ride 2:53:00 [3] 69.0 km (2:30 / km)
slept:5.5 shoes: Crusty Merida

Rode out on the bike tracks to meet Dave. Had an impressive tail wind so put in some extra effort and was flying all the way out. Met Dave between Ferntree Gully and Boronia. Had an equally impressive headwind for the return trip, so swapped turns and got back home much quicker than I exected. Survived well after a little hunger flat through Dandenong (fixed with a muesli bar).

Inline skating 1:00:00 [3] 10.2 km (5:53 / km)
slept:6.0 shoes: Rollerblade Lightning II

Arvo skate around Patterson Lakes after work with Dave. Dave was navigating with a 1993 Melways page through the marked bike tracks. The tracks were really just footpaths through the residential streets. Good fun though and good practice technically. Came to grief when we took a shortcut down a grassy gully and misjudged the bottom. It was VERY funny, even for me.

Run 33:30 [3] 5.9 km (5:41 / km)
slept:9.0 shoes: Nike Zoom Elite

Late morning run in the heat around the river with Dave. Felt sluggish, and hot but the swim afterwards was worth it. Ankle okay after yesterday.

Monday Jan 19, 2009 #

Run 34:00 [3] 5.9 km (5:46 / km)
slept:9.0 shoes: Nike Zoom Elite

Cruisy lap around Patterson River. Took it easy. Ankle was pretty good.

Ride 5:10:00 [3] 67.0 km (4:38 / km) +2003m 4:02 / km
slept:8.0 shoes: Giant XTC Team

Rob D organised another Epic down on the Peninsula starting at Dromana with 14 of us all up. Headed up a walking track up to Arthur's Seat, then cruised around a bit through some single track then towards Flinders. Did a hike a bike, which will forever be remembered for the burs picked up in our socks (mine went straight in the bin afterwards), and the electric shocks received by a couple of people. Had lunch at Flinders then went back on the beach passed Shoreham to Point Leo (riding straight through a Surf Lifesaving carnival). We returned to the cars via Red Hill, and then a cool downhill track. Awesome ride, I felt it in the quads up the last long slow hill though.

Inline skating 52:00 [3] 12.3 km (4:14 / km)
slept:10.0 shoes: Rollerblade Lightning II

Upgraded my old skates today from a cool blade shop in Highett, from an average pair which I'd used about once a year to this new super quick pair with bigger wheels. Went with Dave down to Sandringham and met Nat there, and headed towards town on the bike track. Turned around not far after the Brighton Baths. I'm still an unco, but improved and relaxed throughout the skate. I still need to learn how to stop as these ones pick up way too much speed, but hopefully that'll come when I get my free lesson from the shop in a few weeks. I was very outdone by Nat and Dave who can actually skate.

Ride 15:00 [3] 5.0 km (3:00 / km)
slept:8.0 shoes: Crusty Merida

Late home from work today so had a quick transition and straight out onto the bike tracks to meet Dave. Had a killer tail wind to go with so tried to ride as quickly as possible to get some distance. It turns out that Dave wasn't too far away so turned around and rode back with him. I was hoping to get a little further, but I apparently didn't drive home from work fast enough!

Wednesday Jan 14, 2009 #

Ride 1:09:00 [3] 29.0 km (2:23 / km)
slept:6.0 shoes: Crusty Merida

Afternoon ride out on the bike tracks towards Bayswater. Met Dave half way along Glenfern Road, and got a lift home.

Kayak 1:02:30 [3] 10.2 km (6:08 / km)
slept:10.0 shoes: K1 - Nelo Scorpion

It's supposed to be 37 degrees today so I thought a paddle was suitable. Cruised the normal lap, and finished slightly harder. Felt a little rusty for the first ~3kms. I'm assuming it's because the last 31 hours spent paddling was in an ocean ski. Last bit felt easy though.

Ride 1:10:30 [3] 33.5 km (2:06 / km)
slept:11.0 shoes: Crusty Merida

Ride with Dave into St Kilda on the nobblies for Dad's birthday lunch. Agreed with Dave that I'd carry the bag with a change of clothes, and he'd ride on the front. Rode on Beach Road to Brighton, then jumped on the bike track for a couple of kms (which was a mistake because it was like Bourke St). Dave rode like a machine on the front, whicle I cruised on the back out of the wind.

Ride 1:12:30 [3] 33.0 km (2:12 / km)
shoes: Crusty Merida

Had the rump steak, chips and salad with a milkshake for lunch. Very nice. Jumped back on the bikes and rode home, again on the back. Headwind on the way back, legs doubled up well though. Dave again kept the pace high on the front.

Saturday Jan 10, 2009 #

Ride 1:08:30 [3] 27.0 km (2:32 / km)
slept:6.0 shoes: Crusty Merida

Afternoon ride after work. Had to get out of the house for an hour as Dave had some work to do. Rolled out to Dandenong and back.

Friday Jan 9, 2009 #

Ride 1:31:00 [4] 39.0 km (2:20 / km)
slept:6.0 shoes: Crusty Merida

Afternoon ride out to Bayswater to meet Dave after work. He kindly waited a few extra minutes until I arrived. Had a tailwind most of the way, and rode super hard to minimise Dave's waiting time. Legs felt good though.

Thursday Jan 8, 2009 #

Ride 1:18:00 [3] 31.0 km (2:31 / km)
slept:11.0 shoes: Crusty Merida

Morning roll with Dave on bike tracks and Beach Road to the Mentone Hotel and back. Very windy day - apparently a good day for a downwind from Portsea...

Monday Jan 5, 2009 #

Ride 1:55:00 [3] 47.0 km (2:27 / km)
slept:7.0 shoes: Crusty Merida

Afternoon ride out towards Rowville on the bike tracks to meet Dave on his way home from work. Met him near Lysterfield, in Rowville, turned around and came back the same way. Dave had been on a bit of an epic with a heavy bag, so I grabbed it coming into Dandenong to give him some relief. Felt pretty good the whole ride, but a little tired after punching into the headwind for the last 15kms. Merida needs some attention, I had to single speed it home, in quite a big gear.

Wore my new MTB shoes that Santa bought for the first time today. Very nice, and remarkably very light compared to any others I've ridden in. They look flash too.
