It was supposed to be a windless day, so I was super keen for this race thinking I'd be paddling on glass. We arrived about 30 minutes before the start and there were white caps EVERYWHERE - the wind unfortunately had picked up significantly. Tossed up whether to pay th $60 or not, then decided not to be soft and paddled. I was about 5th to the first can before turning 90 degrees to begin the downwind section all the way to Torquay. The guys started 11 mins after us, and caught me in under 20 minutes I reckon! I just kept cruising along, was quite comfortable in the conditions but not strong enough to make anything out of the great runners. Accidently got a few good ones, but preferred paddling slightly across it to avoid getting 'troughed out'. Finished up 3rd and last out of the females, with a WA gun beating me by 50mins, and a SA girl beating me by 30mins. I've decided I don't like paddling alone in the ocean, I believe there is a whole other world below the surface, and not always marine life of the friendly variety.
