Training Log Archive: Kim

MTB 70kms - CBD got out of TA 15 mins before us so we used them to chase hard before passing just before a big descent. We were riding quite well all the way into the next TA at Rocky Cape.

Trek 25km - This trek was on beach, sharp rocks and coastal tracks. My ankle tendons were not in good shape by now and this was a very long trek for me. We had some trouble finding the final CP which had a very vague description. We weren't the only ones to take some time here. We arrived at the next TA at Boat Harbour in 9th place.

MTB 35km - We rode this final leg quite hard, mainly to get it over and done with. It was good to finish with a lap and a half of the velodrome back in Burnie, at 8.02pm just before dark. We finished 9th which was disappointing, as we made too many large uncharacteristic mistakes. I think we were capable of a better result, but that's adventure racing I guess.

We got paddling at 6.36am after being slow to get organised. We stopped to swap boats at the first chance as our floor was losing air quickly. We got the 2nd CP with all the other teams. The rapids were of decent size at times and managed to flip Rob and Josh's boat twice. On the 2nd occasion they lost the map showing the final paddle CP we had to get. For some reason we thought we could find it using map memory so kept on paddling with our fingers crossed. We were moving quicker down the river than expected and arrived at the finish well before the dark zone .... minus the 3rd CP. CBD had been following us and had made the same mistake. We had no option but to go back and get it on foot, which we did for the next 11 hours!!! This was not part of the master plan, and took us out of the race for 4th, and we now only had CBD to compete with for now 9th place. Bit disappointing really. We trekked through the night before having a 90min sleep back in TA.
