Orienteering 32:55 [3] 5.0 km (6:35 / km)
shoes: Jalas Olway

JK relays, Tyrella
Bok 2nd team, Duncan, me & huw stradling

Duncan brought us back in a good 13th, with gaps around, so realtivly isolated with neil in front of me. Had learnt a few tips from sat, and ran conservativly to number 1. missed 3 as saw Matt F punch a control, but it wasn't mine, dop. Then lost time on 9 by exiting the field wrong, meant to go right but got put of by tapes, and ended up bashing through stuff. then ballsed up 12, by trying to take a smart route and getting stuck behind a fence. So maybe 1.5 mins of mistakes all up. So a bit rough, not quite feeling in the groove, but happy with run, and speed. Was pretty much like a middle race, as was just by myself through most of it. Tom ryan went through me at 5, but he was going much quicker.

Leg gaffle winner hector haines 26.42 me + 6.13
overall i was 11th on leg and pulled us up two to 11th. Huw bought us home in 12th. quite pleased with that.4th second team behind, EUOC, SHOUC and FVO

Orienteering race 1:43:37 [4] 13.0 km (7:58 / km) +700m 6:17 / km
shoes: Jalas Olway

JK Long, Slieve Croob

Open hillside, with crags and marsh. Started badly hesitating on 1 trying to get into it. Then rough at number 5, stuffed up number 7, no plan, and then got scared i'd gone to far, and went up to relocate, went through 12 to 26 cleanly, just trying to push myself, as by myself. then thought 27 looked easy, ran through drink point, but not quite sure if this was in the correct place, wasn't really concentrating and ended up too low, which was really stupid and annoying. So just felt technically off the boil today, for such simple terrain, too many mistakes 4.5 mins all up. Felt I went OK physically, probably would've been too my advantage had it actually been proper classic length. Was never going to be a great result today, but I enjoyed it all the same. My expectations were pretty low, given the previous map, so it was better than i thought it was going to be.

Winner Hector Haines 74:46

warm up down,
couldn't even find my number today, and then when the officals found it, lost it anyway in a crash big enough to rip all 4 pins off.

Orienteering 55:43 [4] 5.7 km (9:46 / km) +140m 8:42 / km
shoes: Jalas Olway

JK Middle, Tyrella South

Terrain was rather large open dunes. Completly bombed the first control, Came off what i thought was my attack point but it wasn't, kept on relocating off this feature, which of course wasn't it. lost over 6 mins on this, so gave up at this point. fecked up 2, as i didn't reeally care at that point, and then cruised the rest of it home, still making the odd mistake and bad route.

Ah well, one to throw away. I've never been good at macro relocation, luckily it's not something I have to do that often. I don't reguarly miss first controls either. The learning piont would be to try and use more than one feature to ensure I knew where i was. I should've probably physically headed towards the fence corner. Even got beaten by Matt!

Event: JK 2011

Orienteering race 16:41 [5] 2.4 km (6:57 / km) +60m 6:11 / km
shoes: Adidas adizero LT

JK Sprint, Stanmills, Belfast, NI

Very technical start, Got 1 & 2 alright, but then mucked up 3 a bit. Just felt a bit cold technically, first sprint race i've done in a while. Probably a little bit lucky at times. Noticed alex rothman catching me a bit early on, so pushed a bit harder from ~10. Pleased to hear Alex having a good run at 15, so thought i must be alright. I was almost glad when he caught me at 23 after i made a small mistake. Stuffed up 26 trying to take a sneaky route, which led to a large unmapped wall. Powered home to finish.

Overall I really enjoyed it, very technical sprint, which suited me, it never let up even at the end so required decent concentration throughout. Pretty pleased with my run, a collection of small mistakes, and an inablility to push hard technically at the start whislt getting into it. Maybe 30 s mistakes all up. The highest WRE points i've ever got.

Winner Matt C 13.29 me + 3.12
