Took Apollo - Ann's new horse - for a walk. All part of a program of getting him used to people, cars, being led, etc. so she can ride him in endurance races. Stayed on the roads since the trails were too slippery for him. Plus my toes were sore from the hike yesterday so I was happy to stay on the roads so I didn't have to wear the waterproof socks that were a tad too tight.

TNT - basement workout with Sandy. Did the ab dvd plus some yoga. The yoga was tough on my arms after all the planks. The yoga was a nice addition though - some good stretching and balance stuff. Used a small weight for some of the ab stuff for the first time.

Sunday Jan 13

Red course at Prince William Forest, a local QOC event.

Beautiful woods, nice course, excellent company for the drive down and home. Messed up one control - was right on target and then got confused when I realized I had my compass lined up along the wrong line. But I must have caught it sooner than I thought since I really was where I wanted to be even though I didn't know it. Sorted it out after a few minutes but it was annoying since I was pretty clean everywhere else. Wasn't moving particularly fast but actually a bit faster than I thought I could go. So all in all a great day.

Walked over to the Schuylkill Center instead of driving so did a section on the end closer to my house. Some pretty cool old stone walls terracing a big hillside - unfortunately they were in a lot of crappy green stuff so not too useful. But it will be fun to eventually set courses there.

TNT - laps at the track. Pretty consistent. Lost count again; only meant to do 3 miles. :)

TNT - Bobby Curtis came this evening and at dinner after training it was really fun to hear someone who is that good a runner talk about his running. Someone to cheer for in the years to come.

The tnt crowd once again helped out and got stamps on all the rankings patch envelopes while we waited for the pizza to come. I dropped them off at the post office this morning.

TNT - nice crowd. Nice in size and nice in that they helped me get all the rankings patches stuffed into envelopes.

We'll call it running since technically it wasn't walking but it was slow. Did 3 miles on the drive at just under 12 minute pace plus the down and up.

Stretched a bit after my 3 miles waiting to see if anyone else was done, but started to get cold so headed on up.

Checking some more of the Schuylkill Nature Center. Not quite as strenuous today as I was doing a bit of updating to the map as I hiked and only went down and up twice instead of three times. Did fight through some trashy green crap though instead.

My knees voted for walking. My mind was totally okay with that since it's been an exhausting week at work and trying to run around the pain would have taken more mental effort than I could marshall today. Did a few runs up a very short hill next to the track and a few 100 meter jogs just to get myself warm. Once I got warm, I was walking fast enough to keep up a sweat.

Walked a short loop on the trails behind the horse stable with Sandy as a "warm-up" while the guys went running.
