strength & stretching 1:15:00 [3]

Yoga class. Lots of good stretching, some strength, some handstands.

Neck really sore and tight and one ear keeps blocking up. Not sure if they're related. Knees pretty good though!

map hiking 40:00 [3]

Setting out radio controls at PWF.

orienteering 38:53 [3] 3.5 km (11:07 / km)

Brown course at PWF. Nice course, fantastic woods. A few hesitations - standing 10 feet from the control and not seeing it (#1), and a little too far left to #4 when I deliberately did not take the trail to the right since that would have a been a waste of very nice woods and so had to hook around at the end. Other than that, pretty much straight to everything. Not a whole lot of running, but some.

Radio controls all worked great. Very cool.

Note

QOC does a few things differently than DVOA and I started wondering today which we might want to consider. For example, participants get their maps when they register. This seems much more friendly and welcoming for beginners than getting it when you start and making it seem all competitive right away. There was someone with a name tag designated as the person that would give instruction and welcome people (separate from the registration table). There was a person by the computer that was sorting people into lines (download over here, register over there, do you need a rental, have you used epunch before, etc.) keeping that area moving smoothly so the computer person only had to concentrate on typing in data. Registration is open only from 11 to 1 and control pickup starts at 3. This makes the day a good bit shorter for volunteers. Anyway, some things to think about.

map hiking 1:00:00 [3]

Helping Valerie with the radio controls for tomorrow's event at Prince William. Was out about two hours but spent a lot of time standing around checking reception.

orienteering 56:00 [3]

Did a course Valerie designed for me using permanent controls at PWF. Fun course but wasn't able to really run. Gorgeous day - sunny and 55 or so.

Try to pay for WMOC again. Done. Now just need to get the plane tickets.

walking 1:00:00 [3]

TNT - walked around and around the track at Penncrest chatting away with Tom (he had forgotten his running shoes so was in his work shoes). It was probably good that I didn't run - I have had a sharp pain near the top of my shin since Tuesday and running probably would not have been a good idea. It started raining right before we started and stopped raining shortly after we finished. But it was fairly warm and it was just a very light rain, so actually reasonably pleasant out.

walk/jog 46:36 [3]

TNT - with Clem
10:44 hike down to the drive
11:45 mile on the drive
11:57 mile on the drive
12:10 back up, jogging Cathedral

Really slow miles, but wasn't trying to go fast, just trying to go 2 miles without stopping. Was also sort of carrying on a conversation for a lot of it. Lots of puddle hopping on the drive, but a very pleasant night out.
