orienteering 53:35 [3] 4.0 km (13:24 / km)

More of the same.

Good:
1. Knees still feel okay (as in no worse than usual which is all I care about).
2. Read the terrain and vegetation well for the most part.

Bad:
1. Didn't push hard.
2. Didn't focus any better than Saturday. Sloppy on the way to 1 letting myself drift left crossing the first spur but corrected (30 seconds); not sure what happened on 4 but got pulled way right into the wrong set of rocks again within 30 meters of the control and took too long to figure it out (maybe 2 minutes); sloppy out of 4 as well drifting way left, corrected and then drifted left again; doing fine to 9 but saw a control to my left and figured I'd been messing up enough perhaps I had again and went to check it but no, I'd been heading right to mine and just hadn't seen it yet (about 1 minute); nailed 11 and found a place to rock hop across the creek and must have stopped thinking since I then totally went brain dead and did not stay high enough on the hill and got sucked into some green and kept pushing but in the wrong direction until I finally snapped to and corrected (2+ minutes?).

So much a repeat of Saturday. Not a horrible race but nothing great either. Hopefully though it will get me thinking about training - both the mental and physical part so that Georgia is not a repeat.

Brown at Birkhead Wilderness Classic.

Taking a cue from Mary, what went right:
1. My knees feel pretty good.
2. No huge errors; always knew pretty much where I was.
3. No trouble reading the terrain.

What went wrong:
1. Never pushed myself to run hard since I'm not in great shape.
2. Made several small errors from just not focusing and planning ahead. Wrong set of rocks on #2 and took way too long to figure it out (about 3 minutes); off to the left on #5 by quite a bit having been distracted by some hikers who wanted to know what was going on (about 30 seconds); hesitation on the way to 6 trying to figure things out that didn't need figuring out but hard to judge how much time I lost; hit the steep earth bank in the green on the way to 9 since I couldn't read the contours due to less than great map printing (about a minute as I had to back track and go around) - the green was fine to go through but it was stupid not to have swung left of the line and head down the small reentrant anyway.

So overall a little disappointed in myself for not having more mental discipline. I knew I wasn't particularly fit so lots of room for improvement there but I should have been able to concentrate better especially since I wasn't pushing hard physically.

Model Event for the Classic Champs. Hiked around on the map trying to make sure I got a good feel for the terrain. I figured out the vegetation and contour stuff, but not the rocks.

Exploring the neighborhood where my sister lives near Charlottesvill, NC. Beautiful day and some nice horse trails in the woods and a paved path around a pretty lake. Not sure how long I walked - probably closer to 40 minutes - but I was leisurely strolling for a lot of it.

TNT - with Sandy on the drive while Jim and Bob did their own thing. We jogged half a mile, walked half a mile, times 3. Although the drive is relatively flat, we did jog the slightly uphill halves and walked the slightly downhill ones.

Early morning, well not so early really since I slept in as its spring break this week, hike in the Wiss.; just down to the drive and back up again. Definitely feeling yesterday's effort on the up.

Yoga/Pilates 1:15:00 [3]

Yoga class. Focus was on stretching the quads which had me worried since that usually involves a lot of things with the knees bent, but there was very little we did this evening that I had to modify. So a really good class as my quads are definitely tight.
