Grrr... It just won't budge. :(

During yesterday's outing I was moving some debris off the trail when something gave way that I wasn't expecting and I fell. I landed on a very thorny tree with my left hand which immediately started bleeding where some of the thorns had gone in. But I figured they were just thorns, how bad could it be and kept going. It took a while to stop bleeding and kind of hurt so I just figured the thorns had gone in pretty far. This morning, one of my fingers is really swollen and it won't bend very far and my knee isn't feeling so great either. So I think I must have jammed my finger when I fell and wrenched my knee a bit, but all the blood had me ignoring those things. I think some ibuprofen is in order.

Note

My brother-in-law sent me this link to someone who did the Everest Base Camp Trail - there and back - in one day! Unbelievable.

Around the neighborhood on the streets. There's some heat rash under where my knee brace goes so I didn't want to wear it. That meant doing something easy. Pretty warm out.

Another of Greg's UsynligO courses in the Wissahickon. I decided to walk to the start/finish instead of drive so was prepared for a long outing. I got to where I thought the start was and started the app and it didn't like where I was. So I went to get the map out and found it was not in the pocket of my pack as I thought and that I had left it on the table at home. Luckily, you can access the map on your phone and since I already had a good sense of where the course went I figured it wouldn't be that big a deal.

But as it turned out I wasn't as careful as I would have been if i had the map, going past where the control was several times and having to backtrack . And it didn't seem to work as well as last time - I don't know what I did to my phone, but unless I stopped and woke up my phone and paced around where the control was I wouldn't get the signal. And the trails were mapped wrong in several places so had to do some guessing as to where the control was in relation to where I was.

Still, it was great to have the motivation of finishing the course to keep me going. Longest I've hiked since last summer's rogaine I think.

I was pretty pokey since I was listening to a book on my mp3 so not at all pushing the pace.

Very, very crowded on all the trails. But mostly people were good about trying to keep distance.

Morning stuff.

And then a whole lot of trimming and cutting back things that were past their prime and a start on the seemingly never-ending weeding. If only the groundhog had a taste for things I don't want in my yard as opposed to the things I do.

3 times around the fence trail. It's about the same as the meadow loop with a bit more climb. Since I wasn't doing anything on the streets before hand, wore my studded shoes and felt much more stable on the trail. If I lose some weight, I may just have to jog a bit in the coming weeks!

:(

Morning stuff although I did most of it in the evening.

I had been planning on doing a Peleton workout today so only did a few in the morning, but then got inspired to try the UsynligO app instead. So did the rest this evening.

map hiking 2:10:41 intensity: (1:11 @1) + (20:50 @2) + (1:29:50 @3) + (18:38 @4) + (12 @5) 6.03 mi (21:40 / mi) +285m 18:54 / mi

Did one of Greg's UsynligO events in the Wissahickon. I actually drove to a parking lot near the start/finish since I didn't want the extra distance of getting to the start and then back home. And then I proceeded to do the course backwards. Not intentionally, I just assumed by where the start and finish were that the course went one way when in fact it went the other. I liked the way I did it since it left the out-and-back control for the end and I could have dropped it if I wanted to, but I felt pretty good when I got to the decision point so did that one too. The app worked well although I didn't get the full sound unless I pulled out my phone and turned it on - but I got a notification which was enough. I didn't take the most direct route for one of them, but I chose to stay in the park and not use the streets. I wasn't really using the map either - know the trails too well - so not really orienteering, but it was still a fun way to change things up in the Wiss.

Got a little bit of everything weather-wise: some sun, some clouds, some rain, some hail and even some roaring winds that had me worried trees might come down on top of me.
