Erg 30:00 [3]

Windy and gray so no rowing today. Light erg to loosen up.

Photo from last weekend in OK City.

Orienteering 1:45:00 [3]

Long at Country Lane Woods. The burberry got a bit tiresome but otherwise this was a nice area and I liked the course. Mostly clean (I got lucky on C4 when two mistakes counterbalanced to put me in the correct spot). Managed my race better today with good plans and APs. I slowed down when I needed to manage risk. I looked ahead on the long leg to C8 to study C10-12 a bit and resolved to be careful. Hence, I took extra time on the way to C11 to maintain map contact; I was slow but at least I knew where I was. Will passed and dropped me on the way to C12; my legs simply couldn't match his pace.

Calf a little tight warming up but I felt I could risk wearing spikes. No problems during the race but tight after.

Orienteering 1:30:00 [3]

WU, middle, CD, un-CD, sprint, re-run leg 1& 2 of middle.

Blew up on C1. Made it by the big marsh and the clearing-with-slash but then somehow didn't stay on track or simply didn't see the bag. When I went back to run the leg later I swear I ran it the exact same way. Maybe a Busse Woods wood gnome was messing with me. Maybe that wood gnome was Ted Good -- because when I ran with him to C3 he deviously created thousands of phantom root stocks that caused me to loose more time. The rest of the course was sort-of mostly ok except that the Ted Good gnome nipped me at the end after I bungled C15.

Good sprint. Patient start, careful middle, running harder at the end.

Wore running shoes to protect my calf. It was a little tight warming up but didn't bother me during the races. I just avoided getting up on my toes for any sprinting.

I'd like to run a race there again sometime and do a better job of deciphering the flat areas. Fun challenge.

Orienteering 30:00 [3]

CAOC Ramble model event. We arrived in Chicago early, drove the lake front, ate lunch at a bar on Wells in uptown, walked Michigan Ave., then headed out to the model event. Walked the first four then jogged a bit. Calf a little tight but not tightening.

Went to Reza's in Andersonville for dinner with Jon and Nancy.

Erg 30:00 [3]

Short on time but I wanted to get some time pulling before the three days in Chicago.

Row 50:00 [3]

Low SR, higher pressure, pause drills.

Run 30:00 [3]

No overnight miracles. Calf is not good. Re-rigged boat and I have some cosmetic dings from the trip home. Depressed.
