XC Sking 2:36:00 [3] 36.0 km (4:20 / km) +160m 4:14 / km
shoes: V2 Aero XL

Nice morning. 28F warming to mid thirties by the end, a bit of a north wind, sunny. I was able to manage my effort and not get bonky. Also had 3 Gus. About half way through I kind of relaxed, used gravity a bit more, was able to shift my weight over the skis more, and generally ski better. Finished tired but in good shape. Quick shower then I met Sam at Liberty Burger for lunch. I was still hungry though so I went over to Zoes afterward.

On the plus side, I found 2 bits of black ice that cause my legs to wobble and them my body to slide on the ground. That was nice. Also nice was planting my pole right in the expansion joint of the bike path, it stuck, and I got to visit the ground again.

Not so nice was a bicyclist who took a spill on the ice on the bridge at the spillway. I got there a few minutes after and wasn't much help other than flagging down the EMTs at the Garland/Winsted intersection. Looks like he may have busted his hip or pelvis. Definitely not nice.

XC Sking 1:23:10 [3] 18.49 km (4:30 / km) +250m 4:13 / km
shoes: V2 Aero XL

Over to the Fort Worth Nordic center for a workout with Pat, John and Pete. First a WU loop then drive over to "the hill." 6 hills where I had a longer driving break after 2 and 5. The hill is 0.4k about about 40m of climb. Then we did 13.2k loop.

Pretty beat. Flat is ok but I was dead tired on the hills from the get go. My legs just haven't come back to me. Also, I'm coughing. I have to protect myself from catching a cold -- I am clearly a bit warn down. Hope I'm not too far gone already.

Hill rep) time, HR_max
1) 2:28, 163
2) 2:31, 168
3) 2:44, 167
4) 2:48, 167
5) 2:47, 168
6) 2:36, 165

My slowest today is equal to my fastest last year; I don't think that can all be attributed to the Aero rskis. Thus, even though I feel like crap, I'll claim a small victory.

Run 50:00 [3]

With Karl on the KATY trail because with the rain Norbuk would be too messy. Legs did not want to go. I would have made it 100m at most if Karl wasn't there. The trail was very busy.

XC Sking intervals 1:00:00 [3]
shoes: V2 XLA98

6 [1000m / 3min ]

The XLA skates are a good bit slower than the Aeros at default-no-reducer setting.

rep) stride, pace/km, HR_max
1) V1 left , 3:18.3, 152
2) V1 right, 3:11.3, 155
3) V2 , 3:36.6, 158
4) V1 left , 3:11.6, 156
5) V1 right, 3:23.7, 158
6) V2 , 3:37.8, 154

Finally got myself out of bed before 0700. Good agility WU in the parking lot and a couple of quick TP hills. V2s were pretty messy because my balance isn't great. The last one was really messy because I was getting tired.

6 PM

Erg intervals 51:00 [3]
shoes: RP3

4 [500 / 3:30]

rep) pace, SR, Watts, HR_max
1) 1:41.3, 32.6, 337, 167
2) 1:41.6, 32.5, 334, 169
3) 1:40.4, 32.9, 346, 168
4) 1:40.3, 34.1, 346, 169

Short workout but I figured I should adjust given the morning's rski pieces. I opted for reducing the number and keeping the pace down vs doing the full workout but slower. Pretty good results I think. First one was from a standing start. The last one seemed like I was seeing enough 1:3? that it would be sub 1:40, but I must have lost something at the end. In any case, I'll take it.

Flat at the lake. Legs are still tired. Forgot my helmet so took efforts to avoid roller skiing on my head.
