Row 58:00 [3]

Felt hung-over today and both the flight to KS and back to Dallas plugged up my ears. Went rowing anyway and affter 15 min felt quite ok. Kept it easy and enjoyed the evening.

Orienteering 2:21:00 [3]

Possum Trot at Long View Lake

16.3k in 2:20:??. Crossed the line 2nd but finished at the back.

Bumble-head decisions for today:
* A km down the road on the bus to the start I realized I didn't have my epunh. They let me off the bus and my plan was to run back, get my stick, and have Lisa drive me to the start. However, along came Dick Neuburger with both my epunch and a private limo ride. What service! Much appreciated.
* I recollect on the bus ride being told that consecutive skips were not allowed. However, that is exactly what i did. Formulating a skip strategy is not one of my favorite exercises. I waited until we got on the second map and the pack had spread out a bit to take the time to look ahead. Picked 28 and 29 and, called the exercise done, and just kept on running. Only after the finish when the usual skip discussions commence did I remember the pre-race instructions. Duh! I'm not really concerned about results per se but I definitely don't like being an idiot, especially twice in one day! My brain needs some quiet time -- I think I'm juggling too many things right now.

Vegetation: Sometimes it was fine, sometimes it was brutal. I haven't been this bloody in a long time. I enjoyed the day but it is fair to say I would not look forward to returning to Longview Lake. Perhaps there are smarter routes to take. However, I find the head-to-head racing of the Possum trot makes it mentally hard to deviate too far from direct routes.

Bumble-headedness and vegetation aside, I enjoyed the ups and downs, jumpng over ditches, running through creeks, racing with others, etc. All fun stuff. Generally, my navigation was pretty good. Had a couple of bobbles that allowed the pack to catch up after having created a gap. Perhaps made a risky choice at 8 to go direct when it would have been better to go around the mess near the control. But mostly, I don't have too many complaints. Also, I was running decently. I didn't feel like I was physically struggling at all. Just moving along. That said, when we got out for lunch after sitting in the car for a while, my legs definitely reminded me of the the effort.

And that's that.

Orienteering 50:00 [3]

Pre Possum at Kill Creek

2.6k in 16:14. 3rd.

As usual my itchy throat morphed into incessant nose running and sneezing on Thu and Fri. Didn't make for being a good house guest at the Joneski's but I wasn't kicked out, which was very nice of them. I don't think I was contagious though -- just a crazy nose gone berserk.

Nice day. Sunny and low 40s. Long slow warmup to try to get my body going, which didn't seem successful. My legs seemed ok but my head was heavy and my breathing felt shallow. C'est la vie.

Turned over the map and it took me couple of moments to focus and orient. My legs to 1 and 2 were rather slow as I got my head going. After that though, pretty spot on the rest of the way. Only had a slight 5s bobble at 10 when I thought the control would be in a different spot. Otherwise, clean and running as best I could. Have to concede the nav was pretty easy though.

Lisa and I then navigated our way to Gardner, KS for a burger at Blazesrs, then more back roads enjoying the country side until we go to Lake Clinton, then back to the Joneski's.

Row 52:00 [3]

Easy. Very nice morning with steam coming off calm water.

XC Sking 41:00 [3]
shoes: V2 XLA98

Started out on the Aeros but 5 min in I flatted. Walked back and got my other rollers. Some old dude stopped me and had all sorts of questions about roller skis. He seemed quite intent on taking it up. I tried to explain the pros and cons as well as steer him to classic skiing but, in the end, I think he will have to collect his own wounds.

Time myself on the tire change -- about 32 min. Still a big pain in the but. Got the tire off fast. Talc on the tube is unnecessary. Do not try to get both beads on at one. Do the inside, then work on the outside. I think I need to break down and get one of the tire changing rigs.

Run 1:05:00 [3]

I was tired and slightly sick yesterday so I went to bed early and skipped my morning workout to sleep in. That helped but I was still a bit off. A good lunch helped some more but I was still a little off in the afternoon. Met Karl for a run at Norbuk and I ended up feeling better after than before. But I still don't feel completely A-OK so early to bed for me again tonight.

Lift 15:00 [3]

Quick set of exercises at the boathouse before a meeting.
