Row 45:00 [3]

Squeeze in as much as I could before the storms. When the wind shifted I stayed close to the boathouse. When the thunder and lightning started I exited the lake. Started to rock-n-roll just as I got boat and oars inside.

Erg 45:00 [3]

Stuck it out to get the time in listening to the storms. For the first 15 I was at high DF, then 15 at average, then 15 a touch light. Did some fast P10s.

Easy peasy.

Old Man Peloton. First time this year. Lots of looking out for other cyclists and a lot of gravel/rocks/water/etc. Seemed to take off pretty fast. I hung in pretty well today, making it up Loving Rd and West Shore hill right in the middle of the pack. Put me at max effort though. Cruising up West Lawther there was eventually one surge too many. I called it a day and pulled off. There were two dozen guys left at that point; not sure how many dropped off before me.

Run 45:00 [3]

w/ Karl through Univ Park and around campus. Avoided Norbuk figuring it would be a muddy mess. Legs are dead.

Bike 1:30:00 [3]

Easy on rain bike because while it wasn't raining there is a lot of mess on the roads.

Erg 30:00 [3]
shoes: RP3

Low DF, 6 x P10 at high SR. Not enough time for a row.

Row 1:00:00 [3]

Dead calm. Would be excellent rowing except for all the boat killing debris to keep an eye out for. Combed the shores looking for 2000m of line with 200 buoys attached. All I could find were 5 buoys, beginning at the start, heading straight at the spillway. I'm afraid there is 1950m of buoy line stretch out down White Rock Creek. Not good.

Lift (dumbbells) 20:00 [3]

Quick in the garage as it started pouring again. Not good.

Erg (C2) 42:00 [3]

Today was supposed to be Henley on the Rock: 1000m match racing. We made the call to "Go" yesterday at 2pm when the weather report looked reasonable. It then proceeded dump all afternoon and night. Long story short, the lake was flooded and rowing wasn't possible. Below is my report for our FB page:

High waters forced a cancellation of races this morning on White Rock Lake. However, given that we had visitors Dallas Rowing Club, Fort Worth Rowing Club, and Texas Rowing Center in Austin, it was time to be creative. Besides, we had to get ride of an oil barrel's worth of coffee, a baker's dozen of baker's dozens of bagels, and enough bananas for a monkey zoo.

We did 3 x 1000m "poker hands." For each piece it didn't matter how slow or fast you went. However, the four digits of your time, m:ss.t, determined the four cards in your hand. First up was the mixed doubles event where we quickly paired up with the nearest opposite gender. Between the two there were 8 cards available to form the best hand. This race was won by WRR's Ed Golding and Kyra Lay with a four of a kind of something (Kyra is one of our Junior rowers who is in final preparations for Nationals). The next race was men's doubles and women's doubles. In this race 1s were aces. Ed and I paired up and formulated the race strategy of rowing 3:33.1 to collect as many 3s as possible. We both rowed too fast and had to slow down the last 20s -- I glided across the line in 3:31.1, which is a pair of 3s and aces by itself. Unfortunately, even combined with Ed's hand this wasn't enough to beat the TRC double (I can't remember who one the women's double). Finally, the last 1000m piece was singles for men and women so we each only had 4 cards. I believe 7s were wild, 0s were queens and some other stuff I couldn't keep track of. I can't remember which of the guys had the best hand but there was a tie in the women's race. Ties were decided by a full out 100m sprint (no poker). Everyone crowded around the two unfortunate rowers who actually had to pull hard and cheered them on; it was won by Kim Elting of DRC. FWRC generously provided their nice tumbler glasses as awards.

While not as good as getting out on the water, it was a very fun and low stress way to get in a good workout -- because even though time didn't matter everyone was generally putting in some effort to make up for lost races. There were no commemorative tshirts but everyone went home with 4 bagels.
4 PM

Bike 1:55:02 [3] 49.51 km (25.8 kph) +488m
ahr:124 max:157

"All the hills" rid. Found every little hill around the lake and went up it. Some hard, some as recovery. My legs weren't fresh but I think I did a decent job of it. Not too hot but really muggy. Lots of debris in the roads from earlier flooding. My bike is no longer clean.

Got another flat! I found a really really small leak in the tube but couldn't find anything in the tire. Very mysterious and annoying. Even more annoying was discovering that I hadn't put my CO2 cartridge adapter back in my saddle bag. Had a tube and CO2 but no way to get the latter into the former. Lucky for me a nice guy from the neighborhood walked by and offered to bring me his pump. Got on my way and put in another hour.
