Row 1:05:00 [3]

Nice row and the winds were low enough that I could finally going around the lake; I think that is the first time in 3ish weeks.

Bike 55:00 [3]

I was home a little early and I have retired from running until the temps drop below 917F. Biking wasn't too bad as long as I keep it on the mellow side. High temps and high effort lead to panting, sort of like at altitude.

Row 1:21:00 [3]

2x with Pat at FWRC. Nice chatty row. Felt pretty decent but we weren't exactly rowing with a mission.

Bike stuff:
Clean 2 weeks of sweat and dirt off the bike.
Replace the freehub.
RBM gave me a bar-end plug to replace the one that disappeared. Lizard Skin bar tape is expensive and overrated. It's already wearing after 2 weeks.
Went for a short evening ride with Lisa as she test out her new wheels for the first time.

Mesquite Rodeo Rally Ride

I wasn't planing on doing this but there is a Poo-nami. Construction workers broke a sewage line in Plano that proceeded to dump 1x10^6 gallons of poo water in White Rock Creek. There is not a lot of flow now and they are trying both containment and recovery of the poo-water. Nevertheless, they are recommending no water activities in the lake just yet. So, against my better judgement I decided to do the rally.

Part I: Ride with the front groups. However, it felt like a struggle and I was working harder than I wanted and let them go.
Part II: Generally ride on my own. Head winds on one's own are less fun.
Part III: Get caught by a large very Fredly group of Freds.
Part IV: Most of the Freds pulled out at the rest stop just before the 40mi and 60mi split. Smaller group of about 10 of us carried on. I woudln't have minded easing off but it was either work a little hard with the group or be battling the wind all by myself. A few eventually fell off. I took some decent pulls but eventually the pace was too high for me so I dropped. However, we came together again at a rest stop. Then me and another guy headed off on our own. That last to almost I20 when I had to let him go.
Part V: Finally a tailwind. On my own passing 40milers to the finish.

I never really felt all that energetic today. One needs energy on a hot and windy day. Thus, this was all a bit of a grind. It was nice that they had the convention center open with the AC running; I really needed to cool down.

Eventually, we got on the road, had lunch, then went to RBM and got Lisa a new bike. Getting new bikes is one of my favorite things, even if it isn't mine.

OMP-Thu. Plan was to keep myself in the back and observe. That worked for the first half of the lap but going up loving I ended up in the front. I was able to sit and spin up all three hills wondering why folks were slow today. The end result was that I was up front heading north. Tucked back in heading south but the same thing happened on the 2nd lap -- ended up in the front few back at the lake heading north. We slowed a bit on "Uphill Spring" at the Boat Ramp Lot and for some reason I pushed myself into the lead. I thought I was holding a good pace but I effort must have waned but after a couple hundred meters the whole freakin' group zoomed by me in one long line -- ZING! I think I may have had trouble even jumping on. It was time for me to turn around anyway so that was that.

I really really really want to force myself to stay back so I can observe more. Next time.

Also, lots of guys seem to rest a bit more on the top of the hills before firing things up again. I tend to keep the pressure on more. I have no idea if the difference is due to fitness or strategic. Which is why I have to stay in back!

I also need to get out on the Tue ride where I will surely get my ass handed to me. The question will be simply how long I can delay the inevitable.

Lift 22:00 [3]

Pulls and dips. Back and abs. Shoulder PT stuff.

Row 1:03:00 [3]

Firm steady state with more S winds. The latter don't seem to want to let up.

Stopped down after work and increased my spread to 160. In the process I've probably mucked up the pitch. I'll see over the weekend.
