Bike 1:14:00 [3]

Bought Sam's HED Jet wheels. A nice upgrade for me given I paid $600 and new they are $1400.

BP Thu night hills. Last of the season because it is getting dark. Also because it is getting dark we only did one lap of "Up and Around." And because of that we started cranking all the way back from Go Forth. I took a hard pull as we approached the lake. Had to hustle to hop on the front group at the top of Bath House Hill. Back along the lake I push to be up front for the unofficial sprint to conclude the loop. Then the pack cruised by without much break for the trip home. Latching on wasn't easy because I was tired. Recovered some along NW Hwy then started cranking again on E. Lauther. I was third from the front when the pace increased some more and I was stuck, no more gears, no turbo, only fumes.

Fun ride. Like the wheels. Legs are still not recovered from previous transgressions over the last month. Stomach issues earlier in the week probably don't help. Lemon Pledge on quads definitely not helping.

Row 1:13:00 [3]

5 x 1000 = 5 (750m / 2min + 250m/ 5min)

Left the dock, returned to the dock, visit the lieu, continue with WU. Felt a little nauseous throughout but it stayed at level = "a little" so I was able to keep at it. Had some bad moments, had some good moments: positive mental attitude is something to be practiced so I did my best to practice. Splits are ok.

a/ = east wind quartering off the starboard bow.
w/ = quartering tail off the port stern

rep) 750 pace, HR_max. 250m pace.
1 a/) 2:07.0, 162 . 1:56.5

Lift (dumbbells) 38:00 [3]

Meant to do a CoachK workout but I forgot to bring it so I did my default routine.

Row 1:00:00 [3]

Felt awful when I went to bed last nigh wondering what plan B was going to be for class and meetings. However, I felt better in the morning and only required one hit of Pepto Bismo today.

Tomorrow is get-back-to-intervals day so I warmed up this evening with tap drills and 10x30s pieces starting at 22 then bouncing around the 30s. I felt like it has been 3 weeks since hard rowing, which is coincidentally how long it has been.

Got rained on, which is always welcome.

Note

Whatever Lisa had Sat night I had last night. Required Pepto Bismo. Not feeling well today either.

Row 1:02:00 [3]

Easy effort. North wind but not too bad. Some logs but not too bad. Clouds and low 70s, which was very good. I thought it was going to be a slog but it turned out to be a nice row.

Bike 50:00 [3]

HED Jets vs. ROL Race SL circa 2014

* Harder to mount Conti 4000 tires on the HEDs. Wasn't as hard as getting Victoria's on but still more wrestling than usual for me.
* Had to open up my brakes a bit. HEDs are wider. Looking at the specs it is 25mm HEDS vs 23 mm for ROLs. I don't have a caliper so I couldn't measure tire width but I used a c-clamp as a reference. Easy to see that the tires are wider too, which they should be. According to all the "science" these days that should be a good thing; a wider vs longer contact patch has lower rolling resistance.
* Braking is more even on the HEDs because the ROLS have a whole bunch of gouges in the brake surface from when I rolled into a crack.
* HEDs definitely louder due to the empty cavity amplifing road noise.
* At 100 psi the HEDs felt stiffer though I could be making that up.
* Ride was good, no issues. Can't really say if I felt faster or not. I don't have a power meter to compare effort to speed. It sort of maybe possibly just a tiny bit placebo effect seeeeeeemed liked when I was dropping from the top of the spillway to the bridge along Garland I accelerated a little faster. Is that due to hubs, wheels, or simply in my head, who knows?

Lift (TRX) 18:00 [3]

It is actually not-so-hot enough to do some exercise in the garage.

Bike 2:00:22 [3] 52.31 km (26.1 kph) +340m

Hilly route just to do them but not to overwork. My legs are still very flat. Nice ride regardless. Very humid turning into rain the last 5 minutes, which I still consider good weather skills given that I was out for 2 hours. Rained all the rest of the day.
