Fair Park Crit 4/5
18/30 starters
13 laps in 32:41, 1:20 behind winner and 1:10 behind group

Dropped with 3.5 laps to go (out of 13). HR was pegged for too long and I couldn't hold on. After a short "break" I got going again but it was a TT slog to the end. My excuses are:
* 9 days in a row of activity had me a little tired.
* First real hot and humid effort and heat sends my HR up. I'll build better tolerance but I don't have that yet.

Only 30 starters this week, I think due to the heat. Started off slower this week, I think due to the heat. I was often in the front half of the group and this was bad strategy for me. I ended up taking more wind than usual and I'm not ready for that yet. I should have been farther back hiding more. My HR was pegged from 20-23 min and that was too high for too long. I ended up pulling another straggler with me for the last 3 laps. I should have eased and forced him to pull but I don't have a well developed cycling brain; I'm better tuned to keep pushing as best I can, smart strategy be damned. He got ahead of me on the last leg south. I drafted and hoped that maybe I could sprint out of the final turn. I tried but it didn't work.

The guy and I rode an easy lap afterward where I heard all of his various reasons for him not being faster; he had many I offered simply that, "It was hot."

Oh boy was I tired. Lisa rode down to spectate and had brought me a cold coke. I couldn't even drink that. I just had to sit for a bit.

Peak Zone (Full body circuit) 44:00 [3]

I was going to row in the morning. I checked the weather and radar at 0615 and it looked fine. At the boathouse at 0640 there was lightning. Sigh... I didn't feel like erging so I decided to switch things around. Hopefully, the wind behaves and I can get out this evening.

Getting better at squats and lunges. Even did these with a bit of weight today.

Row 53:00 [3]

Slow slog in a warm and very humid evening.

Lisa and I met Karen and Pat at the Lake Mineral Wells Trail. Fun ride. The trail has some major damage due to all the rain we've had. I'm ready to get off bicycles for a few days. I hope the weather behaves and I can get out for a row.

Cedar Hill ups and downs. Two full "laps" plus an extra Belt Line hill. Got in 1200m of goup. I was surprised to find when I had some solid times on Summit Backside and The Wall; if I had known I was only a couple of seconds off my PR and could have put some extra effort. On the other hand, I was slower on the longer climbs and pretty darned pooped by the end. Also, while not too hot, it was definitely humid and sweaty.
