GrizzO classic
Went to bed massaging my left calf hoping it would work in the morning. Woke up wondering if my back would allow me to run. Figured I would start, do what I could, and likely DNF. However, the 2k walk to the start + the 9k course seemed awfully daunting. Luckily, the green course was an option and a big thanks to Allie and Boris for allowing the change. A couple of big fat Advils were also a big help.

I power-walked through 5.5 controls and start jogging on the uphill to 6. I figured uphill running would be easier on my back than downhill. After that, I alternated running and walking as the terrain and dead fall would allow.

Missed C3; I wasn't reading the subtle contours well and I was too high. My guess is that this was a 6-7min booboo. After that I was clean. Probably lost time with my route choice to getting of going left around the lake to C11; I saw all of the various choices but I think I simply chose poorly.

Obviously, I'm not happy to have back problems but this has been ongoing; it doesn't bother me cycling but running is problematic. On the other hand, I was very happy to be able to get out and navigate, regardless if walking or running. The day felt very Scandi both with the terrain the the weather. Overall, another very fun day.

Grizz-O Middle
My calf didn't grab so that's good. My back was/is tight and achy so I was running slow. But slow running is better than no running. In any case, the nav was challenging and not the detail I see a lot of so slow was just fine for my brain. I went out of my way to identify big features and to have good map contact. I was very happy to be successfully almost-ish spot on on at all controls but C10. I missed in the low vis, had to bail to the trail on the right, relocated and circle back. AP will estimate my time loss but, no matter, I did a good job of relocating. Very fun forest to run in.

Afterward hanging out in the pillion was pleasant. I ate my lunch, chatted with O peeps, and eventually did some O jurying. The fact that it was damp and drizzly the whole day mattered not a bit.

Blue Mtn training map. Really nice to be out. Because the course was along a slope, there were great views of the surrounding area. Took it easy reading the map and minding my compass. Only did the controls that I felt like doing. There were more trails near C5 than on the map and that threw me off; kind of annoyed with myself. Legs felt good so fingers crossed my calf and lower back allow me to enjoy some go-go tomorrow and Sun.
