Orienteering race 1:27:53 [5]11.4 km (7:43 / km)
shoes: Walsh pb trainer
Jukola 1st leg.
Where to start. Not sure I have the literary prowess of Rosco to do my excitement justice. It really did live up to my expectations. If you have never done jukola, you have to do it! and if you get the chance to run 1st leg, jump at it.
For the hour before the start I was getting nervous, but excited at the same time. Got into the pen early and had a jog around and chatted to Rosco and Murray etc. It could have been the harvester really. Except for the other 1400 people milling around. It was mad. We were team no. 980 so I was starting a good few rows back. When the gun went I made a cunning dart forward and overtook proably two rows at once then it was just a stampede and I tried to get past runners wherever possible without going at a crazy pace. Unfortunately went to the wrong gaffle at no.1, bugger. Recovered from this and the rest of the race went pretty well. overtook people all the way round and fealt pretty strong. Was getting held up a bit in some of the tough forest behind trains so had to sit in and wait for opportunities. Made a two minute miss a few controls from the end which was annoying especially as two minutes up would be top 100. Still felt pretty strong on the run in and overtook a few people. Handed over in 135th. Happy with the run overall and an awesome experience. Chepls hauled us up into 91st and the rest of the boys did well for a 215th place finish. We'll be back to improve on that next year!

Orienteering race 12:05 [5]2.8 km (4:19 / km)
shoes: Brooks adrenaline GTS7
OD Wednesday evening event at Brueton Park. Fairly standard park with a lot of trees which had all been mapped individually and lots of controls made it interesting and quite tricky. DId a mass start with Dan and we raced round pretty hard, being a bit scrappy and dead heated in the end. Except I punched 2 controls too fast...oops. That'll be an mp then.
Orienteering race 8:15 [4]1.8 km (4:35 / km)
shoes: Brooks adrenaline GTS7
Ran the short race after the long. Legs sore and tired. Finished to find I'd punched 2 too fast again! Stupid emit. Better not do that at Jukola...
Running warm up/down 2:00 [1]
shoes: Brooks adrenaline GTS7
Not nearly enough, so legs sore before anda bit worse afterwards. Oops. Leave for Finland tommorow. Woop woop!!

Tuesday Jun 10

Running race 28:43 [5]5.0 mi (5:44 / mi) vdot: 58.6
ahr:179 max:186 shoes: Brooks adrenaline GTS7
After an easy weekend...just what we needed, a five mile road race! Was a tough evening. First road race I've done in ages so didn't have high expectations! Started fairly fast as is usual but settled into a pace I could maintain quite early. Ran splits of 5.10, 5.46, 5.59, 5.59, 5.47.
Not exactlye setting the road on fire...but good training! Dropped behind Matt and Dan pretty early on and they pulled away quite a bit. Thought Matt might die and come back, but he didn't and ran strongly in 28.08 or something. Dan did come back though and I finished 3 seconds behind him. No fight for a sprint finish!

Running 37:32 [2]8 km (4:42 / km)
ahr:169 max:155 shoes: Brooks adrenaline GTS7
Run fro Jess' house round some of the sight of Earlsdon. Crackin day again. Legs pretty tired. Just took it easy but did run a bit faster than easy. Can't seem to help it on the roads and parks. Or maybe I'm just unfit. Got a bit lost but got some directions off an old lady.
