Last day in Estonia. After a few more beers last night and not too much sleep I was whacked but so was everyone. A flatter more mraine style area, Anagach with a few more green marshes. caught up Mhairi and struggled a bit to get away. Did pull away and finshed a few minutes ahead still pushing quite hard on the tracks, but turns out I'd missed out a control. Oops. Strated navigating from the control ahead and despite being surprised to hit the track made it fit and carried on. Quite easy to do when you're tired. Was greeted back at the bus by approximately 3million mosquitos and clegs. Luckily we didn't have to wait around for long.

Absolutely cuacking it down this morning. cats and dogs does not do it justice. Add to that a tired body and I wasn't really up for it. Ran a pairs session with Ewan. Leg about map memory. Turned into a great session. Very useful. Really showed how fast nd smoothly you can run to the control without reading the map and the time you lose reading the map even if it doesn't seem like it at the time. The controls for the last few weren't out and it looked a bit shitty but we were on a roll so carried on anyway. Turned out it was a lot shittier than on the map and the rain seemed to be any heavier so we were regretting this a little. Then for a second I wondered why someone had flashed a camera in the middle of the forest. then a second later there was the loudest crash of thunder I have ever heard. We literally shat it and decided to get home asap. Problem was we were stuck in crappy forest and the route home was through an open area then we got lost. 5mins later, Ewan says I don't think we're getting any more thunder. 5s later...CRASH. Argh, lets get out of here. Finally found the place and made it back to the buses. There were a few more flashes but thankfully it seemed to be moving away. Good session though!

Sprint race around the centre of Tartu on a historical parkland type area with lots of very steep slopes. Would have been better with studs on this very physical course. Ran ok, but legs were tired and didn't have much gear change. Made two 20s errors with an especially dumb one to the last. Finished 1min down on Ewan who ran well. Jogged back past a big graduation ceremony. Nice.

Went out after dinner last night for a few beers. The EUOC lot mostly went home so it was only the dedicated SEDs athletes who stayed out. Nice. Met four guys randomly, two of them were orienteers who had run at Jukola and studied in Alaska on xc skiing scholarships along with one of the other guys. We ended up getting a lot of good chat with these guys and ended up staying out until 2 after Oleg and Ewan had sung kareoke (Ewan was ok, Oleg...won't be worrying the charts anytime soon). Anyway...orienteering, so feeling less than frsh we drove to Otepaa for another sprint race. This time it was on a forested hill which was an awesome place. It had a massive ski jump on the side which made me sick looking at it and a sweet tamac road looping around all around the hill for roller skiers and cyclists to train on. Awesome facility and the kind of thing you don't get in Britain. Was cool running the course and seeing skiers and cyclists train at the same time. Ran pretty well again on such a tough course with a poor route and miss on one leg being the main thing (although there was a giant ski jump not on the map!)

Local Estonian event. This is where the tiredness caught up on me. Orienteered poorly from the start in the poring rain then wandered around losing six minutes on a 1min leg. Not good. Was especially knackered after this, mentally and physically and should have jacked it in. But told myself to man up and carried on anyway, running slowly and orienteering badly. Ended up getting beaten by Mhairi and 17mins behind Ewan. Not surprising really. Sometimes you should just jack it!

Sprint race around Polva (centre of JWOC Estonia a few years ago). After staying up all night at Jukola wasn't feeling too fresh! Ran pretty hard though and orienteered ok to finish just faster than Ewan and Cheps. Nice and sunny.

Midlle distance training. Legs felt surprisingly ok post jukola and sprint training. Love this terrain, quite like JWOC lithuania middle, all up and down with a fair bit of vegetation. Made one stupid 2min error but rest was good and just beat Cheps and Ewan again.
