Scottish Champs Individual and WOC Long Selection - Glen Feardar.
This race was always a big aim for the season but became bigger after a poor JK. I'd put in some decent training since then, the shape had improved and I felt a decent result was possible. Main approach for the race was to attack it from the start and see if I could stick out a hard pace to the end. Held true to this aim but was maybe a aggressive and made small misses on no.1,2 and 4 losing at least 20s on each. Carried on pushing though and caught Will 3min at no. 7 which provided an early boost. Having an earlyish start worked quite well on the day as I passed about 10 runners and was able to drop people quickly which was a wee boost each time. Dropped WIll on the way to 9 then ran hard up to 10 and over the hill to 11. Bit high at no.11, probably another 20s ish then overshot 13 a little but splits quite strong through this section. Climb up to 15 was tough but had Nic Barber for brief company. Error on the way to 18 - cut into the forest but then stayed to high, hacking through some crap and coming out again into the open - could have lost up to a minute here, not sure. Legs definately tiring on the way to 20 but kept pushing through the terrain and maintained the pace. Tiring further by the last loop and cocked up 24 completely, wrong direction off downhill then went to a control on the ruin (why?!) - lost 1min, which is a shame because I was 15s ahaead of Nixon in 3rd at that point. Finished 5th 1min off the podium. Restored the rightful balance iin the Tullie family! Strong running from Scott and Hector.
So...a good result in a tough race. Technically not perfect for sure but good mental approach and pleased with the physical shape. Confidence boosting.
