Orienteering race 1:44:57 [4] 17.9 km (5:52 / km) +410m 5:16 / km

JK Long - Cold Ash. Main aim was to relax a bit more and enjoy this race. Started much better and and immediately felt better about things. Spiked the first couple, wobbled to 4. then a few mistakes. Left at 6 to another control (checked the code though). Overshot all the way to the track and back in. Lost 1min+. On line at 7, crossed the ditch but couldn't see the flag. Ran up and down but just about 20m beyond the flag before seeing it. Annoying - another 1min loss. Sturggled to work out what was going on at 8 30s lost. managed to pull things back together after that. Took a gel at drinks point. Couple of small time losses at 12 and 14 ~20s each. Got a big boost seeing Nick then catching him at 18. Felt my pace lift at this point and ran quite strongly for the rest. Caught Darren Burke at 19. Couldn't shake either of them but not bothered because it kept me pushing. Few more mistakes - ran unintentionally to road at 20 but not a disaster, confused for some reason at 23 but other guys found it smoothly. Screwed up 29 losing 90s - we weren't the only ones. Checked the code at the rootstock though! Few small misses and one bad route for the remainder but physically felt OK.
Overall - an OK result. Physically felt OK and strong in the 2nd half. Technically pretty poor really....some things to work on!

JK Middle - Hambledon. Not a great race. Didn't feel very confident beforehand for some reason. Too low at no. 1 losing 10s. hesitant but hit 2. On line to 3 then saw another flag just before and ran to it despite thinking it was on the thicket before - why? hesitated but found 4. too low on 9 but avoided a big error by crossing John as he left it. Overshot 11 aiming for John not realising he'd punched the control. Eventually caught him at 14. Together until 17 then went too far left to 18 so he got away. No big mistakes. Just several small ones. Physically didn't feel amazing, no other gear in the fast terrain. Splits just confirm that I was a bit off the pace.
Would have been happy with a minute quicker on the day....so not massive margins really. Good field and v. impressive from Ralph.

Intervals on the track. 3 reps on a thin covering of snow. Track firm underneath. Reps felt hard work but no specific aches and time OK. - 3.34/3.29/3.34

Feeling better so ran a course on Beachen wood. Physically felt OK. No big mistakes but sturggled to get any flow. It is that sort of area. Trees quite thick in places too.

BASOC night o - score on Uath Lochans. 25 controls - couldn't get them all in the hour. Felt pretty good tonight - felt smooth thorugh the terrain. Positive for the weekend.
