Stag do weekend - Bristol

Friday Aug 22

Road Cycling (commute to and from work) 3:20:00 [3] 53.0 mi (3:46 / mi)
shoes: Focus Cross Disc
Not too bad on way in - 1:37, but very tough on way home - into wind whole way.
Running (Brick run) 5:00 [3] 1.0 mi (4:59 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Grid
Went for a quick run off the bike - felt quite good.

Thursday Aug 21

Swimming (Morning run) 40:00 [3] 1.3 km (30:46 / km)
400m bi-lateral warm-up
100m kickboard
400m of one arm drills
400m bi-lateral warm-dn

Not doing as much swimming as pre-Ironman, but think that doing less is enabling me to 'break-down' the bad habits and focus on the technique, which seems to be engraining itself...slowly.
Running intervals (Lunchtime session) 38:00 5.0 mi (7:35 / mi)
Jog out to park with group - drills and strides.
4 laps tempo
12 mins of hill sprints - jog back recovery
4 laps tempo
Not feeling super quick but strength showed on final tempo run, easing ahead of Chris.
Legs felt a bit tired from bike commute yesterday.

Wednesday Aug 20

Road Cycling (commute to and from work) 3:33:00 [3] 53.0 mi (4:01 / mi)
shoes: Focus Cross Disc
NEW BIKE EXCITEMENT!!!!
I promised myself that I would replace my Apollo winter bike after the Ironman - having clocked over 13,000 miles in the last year, it's clocked up more miles than many cars!
Decided to aim for a cyclocross bike with disc brakes - to deal with the hammering the rims take in winter. After some browsing went for a Focus Cross Disc. Replaced the 35mm cyclocross tyres with 28mm 'commuting' hybrid tyres complete with reflective sidewalls - good for the city - but slow rolling!
Took delivery of it on Tuesday and commuted to and from work on it today.
With 28mm tyres it's quite sluggish, but it should be good winter training and mean that the Trek Madonne will really be appreciated come race season.
Commute was about 10 mins slower on way in - maybe also need to get used to marginally different position.

Tuesday Aug 19

Note
Was going to go swimming this morning, but felt really tired, so decided to rest. Can't work out what the problem is at the moment. Keep feeling really tired all the time, despite not doing much training. maybe the Ironman effect takes a few weeks to kick in, as I felt quite good immediately after.
Running tempo (Tempo run) 57:00 [4] 10.0 mi (5:42 / mi)
shoes: Nike Vamaro
Ran to track - the long way to do a tempo run - 45 mins. After a quick loo trip (shouldn't have had that Starbucks 60mins before training) did some strides down the football pitch with a jog across.

Monday Aug 18

Road Cycling (Turbo) 57:30 20.0 mi (2:52 / mi)
shoes: Trek Madonne 5.2
Was going to commute to work on the bike, but it was chucking it down, so went on the turbo when I came home. Did some of the Spinervals DVD session. Felt physically sick by the time that I'd finished. Put it down to the lactic build up.
