O - Training race 31:44 [5] *** 6.5 km (4:53 / km)
spiked:19/22c

Having managed to massively fail at any previous attempt to do well in this race I was far from confident of getting the result I wanted. On this occasion my downfall was a small pit which I managed to lose a minute and a little bit on, many more also fell into the trap. Missed on 2 other controls in the race, no.4 saw it and decided I needed to go further, no. 16 misread the bushes and decided they were both on the far side on the stream, saw one and turned downwards. Ended up 5th in the end, so job done but would have been nice to be a minute quicker and get on the podium. Good run from Rich showing that being mistake free is always the way forward.

British Sprint Qualification.
2nd place - 16s down on GG.
Was a lot more fiddly than I was expecting but think I adjusted well. Tried to stay very focused during the first section, planning ahead where possible, and staying in control. Knew we had some dead running later so opened up on these bits. Didn't really do much planning ahead here as was expecting a simple finish. Was mistaken and was quite hesitant in the last few sections where I hadn't decided on good routes. Still didn't miss any controls out - always a positive.

O - Training race 14:27 [5] *** 2.6 km (5:33 / km)
spiked:23/25c

Quick turn around and it was finals time. Started calmly and tried to pick a good route for the long leg (no. 2), then focused as we went through some dense buildings. Managed to make the mistake of misreading where the control circle is, something I think I have done before. -10s Worked to refocus and get back into the rhythm, and saw Rich Robinson just as we left the technical section. This was very motivational as it helped me keep up the speed and flow through the next few controls as I gained ground on him. Took a different route to him on the long leg coming back towards the finish and didn't see him again. Finished strongly, but was tired. Turns out I missed a gap in some hedges on a control near the end costing me maybe 10 seconds again.

3rd overall so very pleased to get onto the podium. Bit disappointed to have dropped some time in mistakes. Just a shame to receive another generic medal for my first attempt at senior level. Not taking away from anybody who is pleased to win one but I have a small collection and I can't tell which is from what.
