Orienteering race 1:29:52 [3]

Green course at Tawasentha -- fun if slightly evil course set by Gabor, with good route choices on most of the legs, a challenge at this little park. 24 controls!! Even if one was used thrice... that's about 75% of the clubs SI stations if I recall correctly.

Did fine up through 10. The contour mapping was off around 11 , spent a few minutes inspecting the base of the embankments for the reentrant, which turned out, was a bit farther east and on top of the embankment than I guessed, and on a non-mapped reentrant.

Forded the creek to 12, always a Tawasentha highlight, even though it was nonoptimum. I did it at the place I forded previously, known to be shallow (its even marked with handholds on the banks), but today it was still waist-deep on me with a current swift enough to fight against.

Went too far on 13, inspecting the ravine further south before discovering my error of being too tired to read maps. For this leg, I did consider letting the stream's current take me downstream to the island before embanking near 13. I don't know if OUSA rules allow this maneuver, and not wanting to break rules, I went through the dark green (which was actually light green if muddy).

The next few were fine, if a bit of a slog. Nailed 14, taking the lowland route, hit the trail, followed until the bend and cut over the spur. Vegetation definitely not dark green, easy to get through.

Went around on the trails from 17 to 18, I learned last time that this area IS REALLY DARK GREEN.

Did fine on the remaining controls, even though I was slogging it out.

In other news to me, APs split analysis for "time lost" is uncannily accurate. Yes, somehow I did lose 11 seconds between GO and FINISH, on what should have been a 20 sec split. I demand streamered finish chutes at all local events!
