orienteering 16:04 [4] 2 km (8:02 / km)
Abbey Craig
pre-Scottish Sprints training.

great little area, realy nice bit of forest on the slope below the Wallace Monument.
Ran it pretty hard but lost only about 30s over the whole course.
orienteering race 18:31 [5] 3 km (6:10 / km) +155m 4:54 / km
Scottish Sprint champs
Stirling Old Town

Recently mapped by FVO, the old part of Stirling proved to be a great venue for a sprint race!
ran a pretty solid race, losing significant time on only two controls. Had a good battle with Oleg after he made a big error early on and i caught him.
I held the lead when i finished but Murray started just after and would have had a great shout of winning if he hadn't lost 15-20 seconds by running past a control near the end and having to back track. Ross McClennan was kind enough to join me on the top of the podium after we somehow managed to dead heat! quality. He took the champagne and i took the bouquet.

Running warm up/down 25:00 [1]

Friday May 9

orienteering 37:00 [4] 5.5 km (6:44 / km)
Got a lift with Jason to his work in the morning and from there ran a course in Achray that was planned for FVO's night league.

Orienteered fine, just a couple of misses. It was pretty warm and by the end i was pooped. Time and course distance a bit rough cos i couldn't remember exactly.

Afterwards went to get a bus back to Dunblane from Aberfoyle. This proved to be a mission. No direct bus so plan was to go to stirling first, just missed the bus around ten...the next one was at 1.30.cock. so decided to get the bus to Callander at 11.30 cos by this point i was sick of Aberfoyle, it was full of old people and germans. that bus didn't exist so jumped on the next one at 12.25 to Balfron, from there to Stirling and then a train to Dunblane eventually home at about 3.45.mission.

days highlights.
-Achray is sweet.
-A very pleasant garden centre in aberfoyle.
-Sitting next to an Albino guy in Stirling.
-Gardening on Inman estate

orienteering 36:00 [3] 5.8 km (6:12 / km) +75m 5:50 / km
Dreghorn Barracks and Covenanters' Woods

ESOC local event with a twist. Lots of course options - colour coded, score and a 'surprise'. i chose the surprise. Decent turn out from EUOC members supporting the local scene.

Course split into four parts - blind o to start (just compass and control descriptions), corridor o, then standard course through the woods, score to finish.
Good idea to make things abit different and challenging.
Took it pretty steady but was really scrappy in the woods and a bit messy at the end.

Tuesday May 6

Note
no training.
woke up feeling really knackered and then had an exam in the aftrnoon.

Monday May 5

Running (Easy run) 35:00 [2]
Easy run with james round the meadows. Crackin' weather in Edinburgh, the sun had brought the crowds out onto the meadows. a couple of degrees warmer and the bikinis will be out:p

Sunday May 4

orienteering race 1:15:36 [5]*** 12.2 km (6:12 / km) +355m 5:25 / km
spiked:21/30c
FCC Long
Cawthorne and Keldy

Tough area in parts and good to have an FCC final planned to the right winning time! course could have done with a good route choice leg though, and the removal of control 8!

after hesitating on the first two i ran pretty cleanly for the first loop.lost some time on 12,13,14 i was getting abit tired. got a boost when i caught Ralph at 19 but he caught me up and passed me for the second day in a row after i missed on 25 and 28.Good lad.
Rhodri recovered from his poor middle run to win, i was 2nd 8s down and hector finished 3rd a further 1.30 back.

Really good final, with spectator controls, commentary and close results.
C • Well done DT. 10
Running warm up/down 30:00 [2]
jog to start and strides, jog after with Ralph
