Orienteering race 3:20:00 [4] *** 23.7 km (8:26 / km)
spiked:22/24c shoes: Inov-8 X-Talon 212 (2014)

K-18

Map 1: Old map. New roads and houses
Map 2: Mirrored map. In picture below it mirrored once again for the Quick Route
Map 3: Paddle. We were in the lead when starting to paddle with Anu, but we were dead last after kayaking. Not my kind of sport
Map 4-6: "Treasure hunt" Some controls point had a treasure and some a robber and some nothing. First one to come to finish with treasure will win unless the next is having a robber. Then he would win. Interesting idea to end the race. I played my cards wrongly on the second last map and lost the game there. There was nothing on the control I visited and then others had emptied the remaining control points already.

Orienteering (Night O) 1:35:00 [3] **** 10.0 km (9:30 / km)
spiked:14/16c shoes: Inov-8 X-Talon 212

I ran the course that I will put now in to our "training bank" with the map that did not have trails. I'm satisfied about the course I designed and how I ran it. Though I had some advantage, because I had visited all of the points and ran already most of the legs too :). I had all my four lights with me [#cannotbe].

1-2 Petzl Nao in Reactive mode

2-4 Petzl Nao in Max mode
4-7 Three led light

7-9 Four led light

9-Finish Two led light

Right after 14 battery replacement
Plan was to run more with 4 led light, but I had some problems with too short wires and had to carry the battery in my hand which was not that convenient.

Findings
- They all are just amazing ;)
- With Nao it is very easy to read the map. No reflection.
- Wtih 2 led light also very easy to read the map. For sure not as bright as 3 and 4, but enough for me.
- 4 led light not as bright as I thought. Good for map reading. Beam is good. Except the weight this headlamp is also excellent.
- 3 led light is brightest I think, but beam is too narrow and that gives troubles to map reading. Reflections.

(rest day)

Savo - Hola. Enjoying cold white light as it's best.

Running 1:00:00 [2] 10.0 km (6:00 / km)
shoes: Inov-8 X-Talon 190 (2015)

Lamppulenkki at Savonlinna. I was cruising on small trails next to great lake of Saimaa. Partly I was running in forest too. By the lake there was steep bare rock areas which were slippery. For a moment I was thinking that soon I'll be swimming. Luckily that was not the case. Petzl Nao I had with me. All are in one package so it is easy to grab with and put in the pocket as an example, if not needed. No wires going down your neck to separate battery pack. Not as bright as 2 led light. Enough for running, but for Oing I prefer more light.

Note

My headlamps
Petzl Nao
+ Light weight, Battery in headband, Reactive Lightning is cool feature though I'm not sure if it is really necessary, long burning time
- 575 lumens not enough for Oing, headband is not good, too expensive
2 Led
Just got this one. Haven't run with it yet, but I think this is the best one I have had so far
+ Very light weight and enough bright. Even the original headband would be ok. Rather cheap
- Battery is heavy. Some sort of metal casing (for cycling)
3 Led
+ Ok headlamp overall. Cheap
- These batteries are not the best ones. Original headband not good due to weight of the lamp, unlike other lamps this one turns on / off leds in different modes. With one led not usable. Two and three leds on are ok.
4 Led
+ Bright enough to light the whole forest. Rather cheap
- These batteries are not the best one. Light is too heavy for being a headlamp. Original headband is nonsense.

Excited to go out with 2 led lamp. Petzl is my selection for runs in the dark.
6 PM

Orienteering (Night O) 1:17:00 intensity: (50:00 @2) + (27:00 @3) **** 9.16 km (8:24 / km)
spiked:10/10c shoes: Inov-8 X-Talon 212

Testing two led Headlamp and hanging controls. Headlamp is excellent except it heated up quite easily ( as jagge wrote about heat dissipation). No problem when I was running, but when I was walking lamp went to lower brightness mode and lamp was hot. I think I got the flags to correct spots ;).

Note

Towards to new training season. Season's facts:

- 318 training hours in total
- 923 running km
- 468 Orienteering km
- 1021 control points visited

This year's focus was on 25 Manna and Halikko relays (Age on my side from team building point of view). Manna was good, but on Halikko I could have done better. No big targets for new season yet except I'll focus on getting the best performance on main events like Tiomila (if going), Jukola, Manna and Halikko. This year's hit rate was 2 out of 4 on those. Jukola was physically the worst day of the year (?!?) and then lots of mistakes on top. Tio and Manna were ok. So the question is "How the get the very best out of me on main events?"
