Monday Jun 30

Cycling 1:10:00 [4]30.5 km (2:18 / km)
shoes: Trek 2300
Evening training ride. Hadn't taken the Trek out in a week and was feeling bad.

Went East - Thornell - 64 - WB - Barker, L on Mendon Ctr to Pond, R on WB to Taylor, back on Mile Square. Caught in a bit of rain but it was refreshing.

Sunday Jun 29

Event: ROC - 2nd Annual Adventure Run

Orienteering race (Score-O) 1:55:00 [5]
weight:197lbs
Score-O at Ellison Park. Passed on the "Extreme" Adventure run and the "Mildly Extreme" Adventure run to do the much shorter "Extreme" Score-O, mainly 'cause I'm a wuss and needed to be home before 2. As it was, the Score-O chewed me up and spit me out. If there was a massive hill that didn't have a flag perched on the very top of it, I'm sure it's because Eric just ran out of flags.

Took the N flags first, then picked off the S ones. Track was 15-14-12-13-11-10-8-9-7-5-6-1, hopped on the sidewalk to 2-3-4, started down the spit of land to the road, white on the map but s/b dark green by the look of it. Relented and went back to 15 and crossed over there, down to the Park office to 18, then 20. Lost a few minutes on 20 b/c I was on the wrong spur, tracked back and eventually found it, then had three wall-climbs in a row with 21-24-23, with a little bobble on 23 - you certainly don't want to climb the wrong spur on this course - then trails to 22. Came very close to trying to swim Irondequoit creek to get to 19 but, wuss that I am, went all the way around to the bridge near 18. Took road to 17 and then fittingly grabbed 16 above the snowline again before heading back.

Eric had projected a winner in 60-80 minutes, and I barely beat the 2-freakin-hour mark. Ugh.
Swimming warm up/down 35:00 [1]
Pool is still pretty warm, though not like the hot tub from yesterday

Mountain Biking 50:00 [2]15 km (3:20 / km)
shoes: Giant Sedona
MTB over to the canal trail to Great Embankment Park for game against the Rovers
Soccer 1:30:00 [5]
Game against the Rovers. I don't know what it is about these guys, but they always play us close, even though overall they're winless and the only tie they had came against us.

10 minutes into the 1st half we had already put two pretty scores in from Koen and Leo and it looked like a rout was on. Rovers picked up their play a bit, and pounced on a sloppy clear to cut the lead to 2-1. Pittsford put up another to go 3-1 at halftime. Rovers got one back on a volley up the middle, but that was it, even with a furious rally for the last few minutes. Final score Pittsford 3 Rovers 2.

Sunday Jun 22

Cycling 1:10:00 [4]22 km (3:11 / km)
shoes: Paramount Fixed Gear
First ride on the new fixed-gear bike. Still a bit strange, but a good workout - no coasting, so to go any faster than 25km per hour I had to push a cadence of 120 or more. Also, used backpressure on the pedals to control the speed on the downhills, thereby working a whole new set of muscles, and essentially had to sprint the uphills (no downshifting). And of course if I wasn't paying attention and tried to coast, the pedals nearly threw me out of the saddle.

All that being said, after getting used to it a bit, it was a blast.

Saturday Jun 21

Cycling 2:24:00 [4]62.18 km (2:19 / km)
shoes: Galli
Went out Smith to Mendon Ponds, but had to stop and take shelter for few minutes until a thunderstorn passed by (time is moving time only) then continued on to Canfield - Clover - Tobin, L on Reeves to Pinnacle to 251 through Rush, down to Sunshine Rotary Campus, L on HF #6 road to 15 to Corby, back up Quaker Mtg House - Taylor - Mi Square & home. Felt pretty fast today.

Cycling hills 1:40:00 [4]41.3 km (2:25 / km) +519m 2:17 / km
shoes: Trek 2300
Hooked up with Steve and John for one of Steve's secret mountain goat training rides. Started with Woolston out of Powder Mills, then up to the top of Woodcliff, over to Turk Hill, then up Steele and down Thayer, then a relatively flat section to Victor, then a rolling hill section through Dryer Rd, Willis Hill and Log Cabin. A nice Father's Day workout.

Signed up for the Lowlander yesterday, so I do need to hit the hill workouts a bit more often. Just have to keep visualizing climbing Gannett!
Cycling 1:35:00 [4]38.87 km (2:27 / km)
shoes: Galli
More flat ride with Mike and Shannon on the old bike. Out Mi Square to Smith - Mendn Ctr - Pond, L on Clover to the Roundabout, 251 to Bulls Sawmill, Chamberlain to Taylor, L on Strong, 251 - Wangum - Fishers - Log Cabin and back through the park.

Soccer 1:15:00 [4]
Game against Penfield Blades, another hot one & another sloppy first half. Penfield ran all over us, going up 3-0 before halftime. Second half was a different story, as we put two goals and went a man up when one of their thugs got sent off for decking Ray.

Unfortunately, with about fifteen minutes left, the ref called the game on account of lightning. Ah what could have been. Final score Penfield 3 Pittsford 2.

Thursday Jun 12

Mountain Biking 30:00 [3]6 km (5:00 / km)
shoes: Giant Sedona
Well this was a waste of time. Got about halfway to work and realized I had a slow leak in the rear tire. Managed to get it back home before it was totally flat, then drove in to work. It's a new tire, so I don't want to replace the tube until I have time to check the bead.
Mountain Biking 1:20:00 [3]16 km (5:00 / km)
shoes: Panasonic CX
Took the Panasonic out for some evening mud'n'stumps. Time includes some trail time, and some schlepping the bike around obstacles. I can see that this bike would make a great CX training bike, but the rig is waaaay to heavy to really race in.

And it's brutal on the shoulder. I need to get a frame pad for it.

Wednesday Jun 11

Cycling 50:00 [4]24.2 km (2:04 / km)
shoes: Galli
Sprint - out RR Mills, Lower Fishers, over to 251/Strong Rd, W on Taylor to West Bloomfield, back on Smith
Cycling 1:45:00 [3]44.05 km (2:23 / km)

Dropped the kids off at school, then headed back out for another ride, Thornell - WB - Barker - Willard, S on Clover, through Mendon Ponds, out Williams to Pinnacle, back on 251 to Mendon Ctr - Smith - 64 to Van Voorhis & back

Tuesday Jun 10

Cycling 1:00:00 [3]19.5 km (3:05 / km)

Morning ride, Mi Square-Smith-Mendon Ctr-Sheldon, up Clover, back on Willard-Barker-Thornell, with a loop of the park to fill time. HOT already.

Friday Jun 6

Cycling 1:00:00 [3]19 km (3:09 / km)
shoes: Panasonic CX
Commute to work - hot one today!
Soccer 1:30:00 [4]
Game against the Italian Americans. Ended up being a scorefest, probably due to the heat. Final Score IASC 6 Pittsford 4, a few fluky goals, a PK for IASC, but generally sloppy midfield play by Pittsford and a little more crispness in the IASC passing game made the difference in the score.

Post game pasta and wine at the cultural center was excellent as usual, and after about fifteen minutes, nobody really cared about the score! This is the way football is supposed to be. . .

Thursday Jun 5

Mountain Biking 1:30:00 [3]15.5 km (5:48 / km)
shoes: Giant Sedona
Biking in the town of Pittsford Parkland behind Walnut Hill Farms (Along the Thruway). Great MTB area - trails remind me of the Dryer Rd system. I think one of the MTB groups in the area have Wednesday night races here - I may need to check them out.

Wednesday Jun 4

Golf 2:30:00 [1]
Friends of Wesley Charity tournament at Shadow Lake. Shot 2-under par 69 for 18 (Scramble format with Art, John C. and Mike M.) but missed a large number of long birdie putts, so really a pretty solid 69. Only had to scramble to save par once, no bogeys, and at least two birdie putts hanging on the cup.

Only one tee shot would have put me in water trouble if I were playing solo. Remaining drives were OK, and 100- 150yd approach game was strong, even for not touching the clubs in a year. Carried more than my share of the weight for the team, IMHO. Chipping and putting were tolerable and if I were playing alone probably would have shot bogey golf or so (90-95 for the round).
