| US Middle Distance Championships - Red Course
For my first A-meet, wanted to work on some basics and especially staying on the map. Was successful in that regard, although it probably slowed down my overall time. Minor bobble on #4, tried to minimize contour lines, but ended up too far W of the control, but managed to relocate quickly. Remaining controls hit pretty cleanly. Nice race and fun atmosphere. Will post splits later.

| US Middle Distance Championships - Sprint Course
#1 - #3 were fine. Then tried to go too fast & didn't pay enough attention to the map. Inexplicably took wrong direction out of #3 and ended up at the trout pond, then had to backtrack all the way along the powerlines to #4. Got caught trying to slog through a swamp on the way to #5, when going along the path would have been FAR easier, then went to #6, thought it was the wrong control #, checked out #14, realized I was just being stupid and went back to #6. At this point I settled down and started paying attention to the map - hmmm - what an idea. Remaining controls were better, but I had lost too much time at that point. Probably could have shaved 3-4 minutes off the total time. I do this sort of thing on Sprints all the time. Need to work on it.
