| Event: CENTRAL NEW YORK ROGAINE XVIII | ||
| Orienteering race (Rogaine) 11:00:00 [3]35 km (18:51 / km) | ||
| weight:202lbs | ||
| CNYO Rogaine at Hammond Hill State Park. Teamed with Ken Bridgeman to do the 12 hour category. Overall, very happy with the pace (didn't jog much this year but kept a nice hiking pace throughout and didn't spend very long searching for controls), the map was much better than last year's CNYO map - like actually matching the terrain - and very reasonably placed controls, challenging but not bingo. Very enjoyable - even with a nagging head cold - distance is a WAG.
Our route - Started w/ 28-46-75 (first bobble - got messed up on the map scale and misread the distance at first)-24-44-67-17 water stop after a slog through a stinging nettle patch - 33-69-27-23 (toughest placement of the day - "vegetation boundary in a reentrant") then back to the hash house for a dinner. Chowed and lounged for a half hour, then went back out and hit 47 (took a long time - very subtle stream junction) - 42 (trail on map did not exist from 47 to the road junction) - 32 (after civil twilight, slowed us down in the woods) - at this point we cut short to grab 5 controls close to base camp - 40 ("lone conifer in a meadow" - only challenge here was getting through 2 electric fences and curious horses back to the road) - 13 - 41 (would have a tough time on this one in daylight - stone pile in a thicket - but lucked out and saw the reflector from 200m away) - 21 - 18 - back to hash house with a bit less than a half-hour to spare. Great job by CNYO on the organization on this Rogaine!

| Game against the Greek-Americans, basically my old teammates from last years' Eastsiders team. I thought about bailing tonight and resting up for tomorrow's CNYO rogaine, but Ray and Mike had already bailed so we'd have been short three defenders, and I couldn't leave the guys hanging.
I always enjoy playing the Greeks b/c they play good basic European style ball, with crisp passing and nice ball movement. We don't as well but we usually have more subs and can run teams into making mistakes. It almost worked again today. Although the Greeks put up two pretty goals early, to go up 2-0 at half, we started chipping away in the 2nd. We grabbed one on Koen's pretty shot, but unfortunately couldn't get the equalizer. Final score Greeks 2 Pittsford 1.

| Cycling 1:08:00 [4]33.16 km (2:03 / km) | ||
| weight:202lbs shoes: Galli | ||
| I'd been feeling under the weather for the last few days and just needed to get out and ride, so took the Galli out after work. Was feeling a bit slow going up Fall Meadow, and had to take it real slow on Mile Square and Smith - they had just put down the fresh gravel and oil - but once I got past Rte 64 I started hammering - voila - stress is gone.
Followed Smith to Mendon Center, across Clover to Sheldon and back around to Clover - flew down Clover to Willard, then up by Mendon HS and back down Mi Square and RR Mills. Without the 4 km of gravel, I think I would have hit the 2 min/km mark.
